Help No Sound, Frequent 'System Process Is Not Responding' Errors, and soft reboots

Tyeal

Lurker
I am aware that this question has been posed a lot here in the forums. But I feel like mine's a bit different.

I have combed through those countless threads of the same issue. I've done everything suggested; Wiping system cash, doing a factory reset from teh Recovery screen, doing a factory reset from the phone. And the same problems continue to persist. SO short of me diving into the developer options and straightening this out, I must ask for further help.

Basically, I have no sound. None, zero, nada, nothing. Completely silent. So quiet in fact, that any kind of music player crashes, I can't hear callers, callers can't hear me, no ringtone/notification sound of any kind will play, sometimes the Volume Control Menu freezes up and crashes, and frequently, my screen will turn white and bring me back to my lock out screen, prompting me for my password. I will admit my Galaxy S2 is getting up there in age, but these issues only started happening a couple months ago.

So, I hope someone can offer me an explanation that will actually fix this for good. If failing that, possibly a walkthrough/guide on how far I'd have to go into the phone just to get sound working.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums Tyeal! :)

Sorry to hear that you are having problems.

It is possible that some of your firmware files have become corrupted and my suggestion is to flash your stock Samsung firmware to your phone. This is not rooting and is the first thing that the Samsung Service Engineers would do.

To download the firmware for your model of SGS2's CSC code, just follow the instructions in #1.7 of the Jelly Bean update - Dummies Guide and then follow the further instructions for flashing the firmware via Odin, as shown in the video.

This should not affect the data on your phone and if you have any corrupt or damaged OS files it will restore them. However, as with any flashing procedure, I would always recommend backing your data, photos, documents, etc; up, to be on the safe side.

If after doing this your problem still persists, then you have a hardware fault I am afraid and this will require a repair at your nearest Samsung Service Point.

Thank you!

And while I appreciate the information, I simply cannot download the firmware for my phone from the webiste given in that guide. It simply, does not download. There is no visible cue or clear sign that it IS, and I now have to scour torrents to find it. Every other available link for that upgrade is non-existent or just dead.

Also, I tried using Kies to update the firware on my phone. SOMEHOW, my phone isn't supported by either Kies 2.6, or Kies 3.

Strange!

Which firmware, as per #1.1 of the Jelly Bean update - Dummies Guide, are you attempting to download?

You could try Helium - App Sync and Backup from the Play Store, as an alternative to Kies.

I am attempting to download Jelly Bean 4.1.2. Currently it's running Jelly Bean 4.0.4, and I'm starting to believe a few firmware files were badly corrupted by something or other. I'm just trying to get them fixed so I don't have to drop $150-$200 just so I can listen to music and make phone calls again.

Oh. Sorry, I guess I misunderstood your question.

Well, as much as I'd love to give you that information, I simply can't. When my phone fails to boot up with any sound, that means a few other pretty important system processes don't boot/work. One of them being the friggin' phone function, meaning that unless it boots up with sound (which is getting more and more rare at this point), I can't even get to the touch pad to make a phone call. It just crashes every time unless it boots up properly.

Oh dear!

Lets me try and locate your stock Samsung firmware for you...

Is your phone the i9100, (not a variant, such as the i9100G)?

Which country are you located in?

Is your phone carrier branded... i.e. is it running carrier firmware or was it unbranded?

What is your carrier?

Success! After beating my phone into submission, I was able to put in that number and grab the CSC information. And no, I haven't gotten a chance to flash the latest firmware on my phone.

CSC: I777ATTLL6
