Help No sound through headphones

Hi all,

Anyone else experiencing no sound through headphones since gingerbread update?

I often listen to podcasts I've downloaded while out and about as they aren't on my iPod but tried it this evening and I'm not getting anything.

I'm using sennheiser cx300 phones which definitely work as I've just unplugged them from my iPod, volume is set to max but all I get is a fuzzy sound similar to a sea shell or electrical white noise but no music or speaking.

Any ideas?

Edit: sound on videos works fine through head phones though

What app are you using for podcasts? If it's working via videos, it's probably a software issue. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app?

I'm using the default stock players for video and audio.

The podcasts seem to play fine through mobo player just not stock since the update

Video has now started doing the same no matter what player I use. Tried for ages today to get a video playing, Finally got it working then a phone call came in while watching and wouldn't resume with sound.

Definitely something wrong here

Could be a faulty handset mate!

I've sent an email off to HTC asking for more help. I hope its not a faulty handset! And I don't understand why everything worked fine before Gingerbread!

I was on the train home yesterday trying to watch a couple of episodes of Family Guy - after god knows how many attempts I finally got it to work with sound through Arc Media player then a text came in, when I went to resume playback sound was gone again.

The files are absolutely fine as they play perfectly with sound and video when headphones are not plugged in, and I get the headphone symbol in the notification bar so it must be a problem with the phone or the OS and its driving me nuts!!!

Just a thought - have you tried a different set of headphones?

Tried the HTC ones that came with it, a Samsung pair from my last phone, the ones I use with my ipod and a set of Sony DJ headphones.

At least you can rule out faulty headphones, as it's happening with other pairs!

Strange though!

Solved.

Switched the phone off, took the battery out for a couple of minutes then put back together again.

Actually mate... just realised that I had a similar issue a couple of weeks/a month or so ago... I just rebooted the phone and it started working!

Glad you got it sorted!! :)

I'd already tried rebooting but it was no help.

No idea why taking the battery out for a few minutes makes the difference. Definitely a better solution that doing a factory reset, downloading all the apps again, setting up contacts etc etc!!

Think that when you turn a DHD off, it isn't actually "off" so to speak... it goes to sleep... if you pull the battery, it definately powers off fully!

Just glad you got it sorted! :)

This exact issue also happened to me after update.
Audio works fine through internal speakers.
Connect any headphones.
UI shows headphones connected.
No audio.
Have restarted many times, I am about to try pulling the battery.

UPDATE
Removing the battery for ~ 10 mins and restarting did not work for me.

LULZ UPDATE
TURNING UP INTERNAL VOLUME (LEVEL) did work for me.

So the DHD holds different levels for internal and extrenal speakers when playing media. When you plug in headsphones or such, it will change the level automatically. TBH I don't know of this was the issue from the start.

Proud moment for a sound engineer right here. :|
