Help no sound when playing back downloaded videos

Every time I try to watch a video that I've downloaded or transferred from my computer, the picture works fine but I dont have any audio.

On my computer when I had issues like this, I would download a codec pack and it would work fine, but my girlfriend has a Samsung note 3 and when she watches downloaded videos using her stock video player, they work fine.

I've tried 3 or 4 different video players plus the stock one, all to no avail. Does anyone know what I need to do to get the sound to work?
 
Hello there and welcome to our forums. Our first question would be what type of file is it (what is the extension). This will help us to point you in the right direction for a solution
 
My girlfriend found it. I downloaded mx player and the audio decoder setting wasn't checked, so that's what it was. Thanks to everyone for the replies.

And it was a .mkv file
