Help No sound

I've had this phone for a few years now, and all of a sudden it stopped playing sound. For no reason. No sound at all. No text alerts, no alarms, no ringers, and no speakerphone. I literally did nothing at all to make this happen. I simply got up one day and noticed that it was only vibrating.

So, I did a factory reset and that did nothing but make my phone stop booting, so I just used ODIN and that changed my UI and deleted all of my contacts, but I still have no sound. I don't know what's wrong or how to fix it. The only things I can find in searches is people saying that they did something to cause it, usually plugging in headphones, but I've never done that and every solution I've found hasn't done anything. Please help me.

Perhaps you've simply blown the speaker? Does it still make sounds in call? How about with speaker phone in a call?

The sound works fine if I plug in headphones and calls come in fine when the speaker isn't on. If I did blow the speaker, I don't know how that could have been possible since I didn't use it at all between the last time it worked and when it suddenly stopped and I certainly didn't have anything playing loud enough for that to happen.

Haha! In the low-end smartphone world 2 years is ANCIENT... the prevail isnt a high quality device... one drop and you can completely fry a battery (happened to me)

The wire to the speaker could have somehow become loose/ been severed. Could be any number of things. But its DEFINITELY a hardware issue. If you odined an image onto the phone and it still doesn't work then its not software related. If it was software, Odin would have fixed it ;)

Okay, but I didn't drop it. Nothing at all happened. Anyway, my phone is rooted, so is this something that I can go to a Boost store or something and someone will do something about?

If you take it into a boost store, I recommend flashing it to stock unrooted first. They may be able to fix it, although it will not be a free repair.

Think I'd be able to get a quote first or would they get super pissed if I were to bring in a rooted phone? The only reason I even did it was so that I could change my text notification sound.

They can cancel your service if they even suspect the phone is rooted (according to their new tos) so its best to bring it in unrooted...

And yes, I'm sure they will give u a quote before they service it

Edit- Also, you can change your text notification without root... that's definitely a stock feature

Yes, you don't need root for that. You just place it on your sdcard in /media/audio/notifications/

If the folder isnt there, you can create it. This works for ringtones and alarms too. You just need the appropriate folder in your audio folder. (One called either 'alarms' or 'ringtones')

Never mind what I wrote before, if anyone happened to see it. I'm installing stock files right now, but I still want to know if there's a way to be sure that I'm fully back to stock features.
