Help No System Update option

I got a new Galaxy Ace last month and there is no System Update option in the about phone menu. I have also tried kies and it says I have the lastest firmware. I posted a question in samung support but no answer yet.

Should I take the phone back to the shop as faulty and ask for a replacement that has the menu option in it ?

Any help with this is appreaciated.

When you start Kies, it automatically search for last update (internet connection needed of course). If new firmware is available, you will see notice like this one:

Also after the 2.3.3 update is available to you there will be a software update (for OTA updates) option in the menu once installed.

Dont think so as the firmware wouldn't be correct if not 3 origianlly. What network is it on at the moment. It is coming to all so be patient. You can flash leaked roms but they are buggy.

There wont be a over air update option until you get the 2.3.3 update via kies. All Aces are shipped with 2.2.1.

Its not a massive update (i like it but others dont) so just wait and it will become available soon.

(please press the thanks button if this helps)

The phone was bought sim free, but I'm on Virgin network.
They dont seem to be plannning to release this upgrade on their network for the ace. According to the virgin media forums. If they dont release it will I be stuck with the current firmware ?

The network you use is irrelevant it's the firmware region that matters. The firmware region is shown in brackets at the end of the firmware version as displayed in Kies, sim free for Europe should be XEU mine is also unbranded/unlocked but is actually the carphone warehouse edition (CPW) I don't think the Gingerbread update is available officially for either yet though. If yours says (VIR) at the end then it is Virgin branded and if they really never release an update for it then the only way to update would be to flash it with an unofficial or leaked ROM.

Sorry but network is not irrelevapt. 3 in the uk for example have released thiers. each carrier plays around with it. O2 are still doing this now. 3 changed a couple of things on thier version of the rom. It was started to roll out from virgin but they pulled it as they had an issue sending sms when packet data was on.

I think you misread my comment, I said the network that you use is irrelevant not which network branded your firmware. My phone for example is sim free with carphone warehouse (CPW) firmware, I use T-mobile but that's irrelevant because it's not running t-mobile firmware, similarly if I were to start using a 3 sim in it I wouldn't suddenly be offered a firmware update because the firmware isn't the 3 version (H3G).

The OP said they bought the phone sim-free and if that's the case then they won't be running Virgin's customised firmware.

Thanks, I bought the phone from phones4u and the firmware version is CSC:kc2:XEU.

So I presume the update will appear in kies at some point. Can I also confirm that until the phone is updated through kies with gingerbread that the menu option for update phone will not appear.

Thanks for all of the help with this as I'm new to androids and was not sure if I had a problem or not.

This is correct, I have a sim free ace, have previously flashed to gingerbread but it was buggy, I'm waiting for the official update now which will include update option in phone menu.

Did you Downgrade back to froyo?? because it also says on my kies that this version cannot be updated as I did use the Gingerbread rom and flashing technique. I am wondering whether if when it comes it it will be able to upgrade... but...samsung in South Africa actually said to me it will be out on the 29th of July soooo im not so sure why theres problems???

I downgraded using ODIN and a f/w with multi csc, then put the csc as xeu which is unbranded uk, not sure what the SA equivalent is but samfirmware has all the relevant files there.

thank you. i bought my ace from singapore through a friend. SAMSUNG ACE GT-S5830. ANDROID 2.22.1. when i tried to update through kies it shows this message:
current version PDA:KB7/PHONE:KB1/CSC:KB6(DBT).
THIS VERSION OF THE DEVICE CANNOT BE UPDATED.
does this message mean that my ace has the latest version or is there something wrong and it cannot be updated ever?. please reply. thanks in advance

Don't know why some receive that message  Normally, no update is available when the installed version is the same as the latest version. In this case you just need to wait more. Don't know what to do when you receive "THIS VERSION OF THE DEVICE CANNOT BE UPDATED.". Ask your provider.
