Help no text alert

Hi, new to the forum so...Hello!
i'm having issues with the wife's Galaxy Y in that it seems to have lost its text alert. it used to work fine and seem to be set up correctly in sound settings but does not make a sound when a text is received. The ringtone works fine.
Any ideas?

ah, my typo, it IS a 'Y'

oh ok. . The solution. Upgrade your phone using Kies to 2.3.6. It'll solve your problem
