Help No text message notifications (all show as read)

JordanM

Lurker
This problem started last week (before my AT&T software update this weekend, but I'm still having the problem). When I receive a text message, it is automatically in a "read" status. As a result, I don't get the text message icon on the status bar, or a text message alert (either a vibration when in silent, or a notification when on ring). (I already verified that alerts are turned on).

I have a GS3 on AT&T, current android version 4.1.2. My assumption is some other app is scanning the text messages as soon as they're received, which immediately marks them as read, and results in no notification (if I send a text message to the phone when the screen is off, the screen will blink quickly, then go dark again). I haven't downloaded any apps in about 1.5 months.

If anyone has suggestions on how to fix this issue, please let me know.

Thanks,
Jordan

UPDATE: I was able to fix this problem by deleting the "AT&T Messenger" App. The app had been on my phone for a while and I had never used it before; however, it must have updated at some point and part of the update was taking over the text messaging inbox. I'll leave this thread up here in case anyone else has the same issue.
