Help No wifi and GPS

Hi everyone,

I just bought a samsung galaxy apollo i5801.

When I want to connect to wifi via my router I can't get connected.
The first time I had no mac address so I did a hard reset. After that I could see the mac address and I could scan for wifi. I also found my router. I clicked it to connect (and entered the correct password). After that I can't get any internet connection on the phone (the wifi icon doesn't appear on the screen). If I go back to the wifi setup I see that the wifi connection is canceled.
I did another hard reset, but the problem stays the same.
Also via a static IP-address it wont work.

I cannot enter the mac address from the phone in my router because then I get the error that it is in the wrong format (it has to start with a 0).

Does anyone know what this problem is caused by?
Also I see the GPS is on but there is no icon in the top screen (where I tought there should be an icon, just like with the wifi).

If nobody knows a solution I will be going back to the shop on monday because I have a slight feeling there is something wrong with the phone.

The following software is on the phone: Firmware version 2.1 update - 1 Eclair.
I tried to connect to my computer with Kies as well and then it says that it cannot update the phone.

Hope someone can help me in the right direction.
Kind regards.

I don't know about the wifi, but with the GPS it can be normal.
It takes a while for your phone to get a fix on the sattelites... download GPS test. It's an aplication that let's you watch the sattelite activities and you will see when you've got a fix.

Are you doing a factory reset or really a hard reset, because you'll have to be carefull.
A hard reset can damage your phone.

Thanks for your response.

At the moment I cannot download anything because I can't get the internet connection (wifi) to work.
I tried downloading programs with Kies but that isn't possible because it says there is a compatibility problem. If I click a program to download I can choose between two phone types, the S8500 and the S8530.

I'm doing a factory reset (via the options menu).

mmm... turn the GPS on and then open google maps. You should see the GPS icon blinking. It will stop doing that when it gets a fix :)

No idea about the wi-fi though.... I have had two galaxy 3's, both worked without a problem.

p.s. Now that i think about it...i had GPS problems after i downloaded a program called GPS test (on the first phone). The phone wouldn't get a GPS fix anywhere. Uninstalling that program fixed the GPS issues :)

Turn off mac filtering on router. Connect phone. Now it should be listed on the router and you should be able to add it that way
