However, many modern Android phones don't allow you to save contacts to the SIM (and by "modern" I mean for at least the last 3 years - my Pixel 2 has never had that option, and Nokias tend to stick quite close to Google's software). Saving contacts to the SIM is very limited (in number of contacts and what information can be saved), and frankly SIMs are not that reliable (I had 2 fail between 2010 and 2017), so I'd recommend saving them to the phone and then making sure you have a backup somewhere else (which is a good idea anyway: if you save them to the SIM and lose the phone you lose the contacts, so you want a backup that's not on/in the phone itself).
