Non-droid notepad app?

...not sure I'm comfortable with everything I type using a 'Droid app being
stored on a google server somewhere. Non-droid app more private?

Many apps for Android let you make notes and store them on your SD card.

I think that answers your question as I am unsure what you mean by a Droid app.

If you don't trust Google, you got the wrong phone :)

Something like Google Docs stores your files in the cloud - perfect for TO DO lists you might want to access at work or school without trying to type on your little phone.

It really depends on what you're typing ... there are DEDICATED apps for MOST things you might want to type something up for (to do list, grocery, etc.).

If you are referring to a note app that does not store in the cloud, there are many such apps. Even the default Memo app in the SGSII does not store in Google servers.

Don't most of the office applications in the Android market and those which came preloaded on my Samsung GSII store a copy of anything I type onto google servers?
Not comfy with that. I want to know if there is some other appllcation, or action I might take which keeps my documents more private.

Google docs will keep notes locally but wants to sync with the server for that cloud feature.

Many of the simple note apps will work cloud-only, local storage only or both - there are lots of them and they vary.

The document apps, compatible with Microsoft Office documents, work on local storage so far as I know, just like on a PC - your document is your document. I use OfficeSuite Pro, but there are other good or better ones that will work locally also.

I have the option to use remote files on OfficeSuite Pro, but I don't - just private, local files.

I learned only too late that Android is owned by Google. But I hope to find some workaround what are quite possibly corporate wolves clothed in the sheep's clothing of convenience.

No they don't. Samsung stock TouchWiz apps are designed to work without Google because TouchWiz is used cross platform in Samsung phones (feature phones and Samsung Bada OS uses TouchWiz too). So basically, stock contacts app can work without Google if you specify it to phone memory only. It will give you warning that phone contacts won't sync to Google. Same for Calendar, you need to use the Samsung My Calendar not your Google Calendar. As for documents, the bundled Polaris office also does not sync automatically to Google. Only Google Docs does that. The Memo app also does not sync to Google, well because it has nowhere to sync to anyway.

How about QuikOffice? It gives me the option of saving to an SD. Will it also save in the Cloud?

If you save to SD, it saves to SD only.

If you save to cloud, it saves to cloud only.

None of the office documents will auto-save to both - too many of us with business-sensitive issues don't want our documents anywhere but on our own devices and company servers.
