Non-gmail contacts gone...and found.

I was about to place a call when I noticed that my list of contacts was looking a little thin. I quickly realized that all of my non-gmail contacts were not displayed in the contacts list...shortening the list from ~250 to ~50 contacts total. First thought was that they had been deleted and I'd need to bring my old phone and DROID back to Verizon to get the numbers transferred again. Great. Just great.

Instead, I selected "Import/Export" from the contacts menu, selected "Import from SD card", and all of my contacts were found and merged with my gmail contacts in the main list.

What gives? Is this an issue related to reading the SD card at start-up or something? I have had some resets occur...could it be related? I'm thinking about exchanging for another DROID.
