Hi:
I know there are threads dealing with app loading on the Captivate, but I am still confused. I read the sideloading sticky, and came out more confused than ever.

I am a current Tilt2 (Winmo) user, and am considering buying a Captivate.
Are you only able to install apps that you download through Marketplace? If so, is there any simple way to get around that? My boyfriend has a Sprint Samsung moment, and all you have to do is use Astro file manager to install apps which you have saved to your SD card. Is this not true on the Captivate?

I definitely would not want to purchase a phone that doesn't allow third party apps.

You can install 3rd party apps, but AT&T blocks this by default. You would need to root your phone and enable side loading. I believe both of those topics are stickied.

I read the sideloading sticky, but it seems VERY complicated. Would that void the warranty? Frankly I would be afraid to damage the phone. Is there any way a simpler method might be developed in the future? Maybe something like a simple cab file?
