Help None signal bars...?

Kwala

Newbie
I just got a new LG Connect 4G last night, I've already rooted it and everything seems fine. Although I notice there is usually no signal bars (but without going to no service; with the x) and sometimes it just switch to full for a few seconds and then back to no bars... it stays without any signal bar most of the time. However it seems to not affect calls..

Note: When I go to Settings -> Status -> Additional Status Info, it shows a signal strength of -65~-75 dBm.. Is that fine?

Anyone with this problem?

That is normal, everyone is having this problem.
I cant tell if its a phone bug or metropcs problem with connect.
This happens when your phone is on EV network/mode.
It doesnt happend while you are on 4g or 1x.
I already checked this with other users here and also try it myself with other connect.

edit: it doesnt matter if u have data on or off.. but if u have it of and u see it says EV it's gonna flicker...

I'll try the *228 suggestion. It's not a big issue but because it's MetroPCs, I always check my signal (there are many places where it's too poor and calls are not so good..) but now I'll just don't know..

Well at least I know I'm not the only one.

Thanks

Those signal bars seem to mean little on my phone.
About -30dBm is wi/fi strength; about -104dbm is dropped call territory.

Another thing, I've never seen my phone on 4G... it's either on 1x or EV. Any ideas why?

Thanks,
3 possibilities:

you're in a bad spot for 4G. try going to different areas of your city and see if that helps. i get 4g where im at but there are some spots where i only get EV so there is the possibility of weak signal spots.

- your phone is set to CDMA only. you can download "quick settings" from the market which will allow you access to a hidden menu where you can change the phone to LTE/CDMA.

- your phone isnt properly provisioned. dialing *228(if i recall correctly) and updating your roaming list can help. if it doesnt you may need to contact metro and get them to fix the problem.

I'm in NYC and I'm usually in different places along my day, I've been checking signal in every different place and usually it's on 1x and sometimes on EV. I haven't seen it on 4G yet.

My phone is set to LTE/CDMA.

I just did the updating of roaming list (*228) but still not getting 4G.

So I think I'll have to contact Metro..

Thank you

Update: I contacted Metro and they did a soft restart (they made me turn the phone off and then back on)? Didn't work, so they reprogrammed it, didn't work. So they opened a ticket and they said I'll have to wait 3-5 days to hear back from them...

Any ideas? Anyone?

best thing I can tell you at this point is to wait on them. if they walked you through the cdg menu, and things still didn't work with a re-authorization to their network then it's probably the phone. The 3-5 days is just them making sure that it's the phone, and not their network/service area.
If they deem that it is they'll recommend you return the phone, and will even work with your local store to get you another one, so I'd say just hold off, cuz working with your local store yourself will just get you some refurb piece of crap more than likely, and may be an unnecessary step as it may be their network/service area.
Towers are really buggy bastards at best. There's millions upon millions of things going through them at any given time, so let metro trouble shoot their towers first, then if they say it's not them trade the phone in.

You should be able to get 4G on your Connect. Make sure your sim card is provisioned to the account. If the sim card is not provisioned you will not get 4G. Bring the phone to a corporate MetroPCS store and have them double check the sim card provisioning. The numbers on the sim have to be tied to your account. You can try calling MetroPCS and update them with the sim card ICCID

I had this problem. The best way to know about SIM CARD is to go to the website, log into your account, then go to profile
and make sure you have 2 items there.
both has to be your phone number, must say active and one should be your connect phone and the othe should say ICCID.

In my case, it only showed the connect, not the ICCID.
Metro store, and also on the phone told that it was more likely to be a defective phone.
when they were giving me a new one and making a void to my phone they realized that ICCID was never activated!!
the guy also told me that it is very easy fix that can be done over a phone call to metro....

I went to MetroPCs website but I couldn't find that field for the ICCID. But I did find it in the phone, under Settings - About - Status and the number matches my Sim Card.. So it's right?

I'm going to a Metro corporate Store Today to see what is going on! I'm thinking it is a defective phone...

Well it was not a defective phone! It was indeed the Sim Card!

The guy at the MetroPCs corporate store was not too savy.. he almost gave up and was going to fill out a form to get a replacement withing a week... then I start saying all the things I read around here and finally when I said about the Sim Card he checked and bang! Was not activated or something like that. 2 min work, restart the phone and 4G icon for the very first time at my sight on my Connect! Hurray! haha.
