Root Noob alert: Is the OTA GB Rootable Yet?

DatacomGuy

I'm still running .340, rooted via VISIONary+. This is my second android, first was the OG Droid. This phone is such an upgrade, I haven't seen the reason to upgrade yet. Especially if the OTA GB isn't rootable yet.

I have no desire for special ROMs etc. I like the stock look, and the stock performance. No overclocking or anything special. I just want the stock setup with the freedom of root.

So, is the OTA GB available to root yet? Or is the only current option available flashing a rooted rom..

I'm sure this has been covered. But never hurts to ask I suppose.

OTA GB is not rootable, and will probably never be. If you want rooted GB, you have to flash a 2 part zip file. Its not a ROM or anything, just a pre-rooted version of the OTA.

Is it bug-free for the most part?

I'm sure there are threads covering, what is the name of the process/2-part file so I can read up on it?

It was stable for me, I had no problems with it. Of course, its going to be different for everyone, and not all phones react the same. I would say the majority of us really liked the GB upgrade.

that link will tell you everything you need to know, and give you the files also. Its an easy process. You'll want to follow "Method Two" since you're on rooted FroYo.

Oh, and I don't know anything about the new GB version .602 that was just released a couple days ago, I've not upgraded to it since I'm running MIUI and I really like it.

Been on the rooted GB for a while now with no issues--one caveat, though, I did several clean installs before it really worked well. If it felt laggy or slow at all, I started the process over from sbf to 2 part tbh install...after having this phone for almost a year and trying lots of tweeks, I've got the rsd lite clean install down to a science so the whole process takes about 20 minutes. It's strange but each phone is very different and each install is different as well.
