Help noob here need help with hd2 please

i have just bought the htc hd2 and want it to run andriod but i dont know which one to download or even where to download from.
i have spend many hours reading and still no closer to what i need is it gingerbread 2.3 , froyo which is the best one to use

what software and radio should my phone be??/
i have took a look at the guide on here and dont have a clue where to start as im not to good stuff like this and dont want to brick my phone.
is there a video guide around someone could send me a link to

any help would be great sorry for the silly questions
i know my way around a pc and im willing to have ago.

The process to do this is really quite simple. Typically it involves installing a Hard SPL, changing your radio version, installing MAGLDR, and then flashing whatever ROM you want. After that you need to enter your APN settings in order for 3G data to work.

The difference between Froyo (2.2) and Gingerbread (2.3) is really a decision that you need to make. I have helped a few people install the prj Clean Desire ROM and everyone seems to really like it. It's Froyo based so it's a little bit older, but it's super fast, has the HTC Sense UI on it (which in my opinion is a little more user friendly than the stock Android UI), and everything works really well. The only thing you can't do is take videos in 720p (though other videos in other resolutions work fine).

As far as bricking your phone goes -- just makes sure that you flash a compatible radio version. Everything else can be changed/flashed back to defaults but if you flash the wrong radio then you can brick your phone. For example, don't flash the European Windows Mobile 6.5 images for the HD2 on a T-Mobile (US) HD2 and vice versa.

If you look at last post in the above thread you'll see links to install HSPL 2.08 and radio version 2.15.50.14. These have been installed by tons of people and I have personally flashed them without issue. They will work just fine for you. The links include videos showing the installation process as well.

MAGLDR is easy to flash (see post #9 in the above thread) and then from there you hold the power button down as the phone boots to get into MAGLDR. Most ROMs are installed by selecting option 4 and running an executable. If you read through the above thread all of the steps and information you need are there (though perhaps slightly out of order) to get you up and running with the prj ROM. Give it a shot and if you don't like it then you can always look at flashing a different ROM like CyanogenMod, for example.

I'm basically just copying and pasting out of my old post here. Some of the steps I am linking you sites and some of the steps I'm just putting my own info there because it's just easy enough to follow the few steps that I write instead of reading someone else's guide. Good luck and you should be fine as long as you follow the steps carefully (specifically when flashing the radio).

I'm not sure if you're on Windows XP or Vista/7 but if you get the rspl.cpp error when attempting to flash something, it means that ActiveSync 4.5 (XP)/Windows Mobile Device Center (Vista/7) is making USB connections and you just need to uncheck the box for that in the settings. See the thread I linked you to above for more info.


1. Flash HSPL 2.08:

3. Install MAGLDR 1.13:

a. Download MAGLDR 1.13 image below and then extract it with WinRar or 7-Zip:

b. Power down your phone, then put it in the bootloader by holding volume down as you power it on.

c. Connect the phone to your PC via the USB cable (text on bottom should change from Serial to USB).

d. Run the RomUpdate.exe program and click the checkboxes. It should handle everything else for you and flash within a few seconds or so. Just follow the on screen instructions.



4. Flash the prj Clean Desire ROM:

a. Download the above file then extract its contents using either WinRar or 7-zip (both freely available programs)

b. Start ROMInstaller.exe and follow instructions.

c. Boot your device into MAGLDR by holding down the power button and select in the menu "4. USB Flasher"

d. The program will take over from here, just let it do its thing and when your phone reboots it should load up the new Android ROM.




5. Put in your APN settings. The following seem to work for US HD2 phones on T-Mobile:

The rests are blank (not set) until you get to MMSC.

so i flash HSPL 2.08 with HSPL3???
im in the uk and the phone is unlocked meaning i can use any sim card i will be useing a o2 network sim.
the radio you have told me to get are there two types one for uk and one rest of the world??? or is the one above fine to use
will i need to find out my SPL to make sure i have the right one??

Yes, you use the HSPL3 program to install 2.08 HSPL. The 3 just means that it's the 3rd version of the program that changes your SPL. It doesn't mean that it flashes a version 3 HSPL to your phone. For example, both HSPL3 and HSPL4 will flash the 2.08 HSPL to the phone, but the HSPL4 program probably includes some bug fixes or something like that. But you should be fine flashing with the HSPL3 program that I linked you to.

I am fairly confident that the radio version I linked you to will work fine. If you're unsure or want to download a different version you can try one here:

You might also look at posting either here or on xda-developers to see if anyone can tell you what radio is good in the UK. You would probably be better off getting confirmation from someone else in the UK that has already flashed their radio to see if this version works. I know 2.15.50.14 certainly works with the US HD2 phones.

As far as the radio goes, the default radio limits the phone to use 512MB of the RAM on the phone, but the phone actually has 576MB of RAM. The point of flashing the radio version is to open things up and be able to take advantage of the entire 576MB of RAM. As far as I can tell the 2.15.50.14 radio will work fine in the UK because it's a "cooked" radio image (meaning that someone hacked it to work and the DFT installer handles loading it up). You certainly should not flash a STOCK ROM/radio to your phone if it isn't specific to your country. So for example, if you tried to flash the US version of Windows Mobile 6.5 back to your device (for some reason) then it would almost certainly brick it. You should instead flash the ROM meant for the UK version:

As for your APN settings, you'll need to search google or whatever for settings specific to the o2 network in the UK. I did a search and this was the first hit that came up -- not sure if these will work for you or not since I have no way of testing them:

Absolutely not. You're already using a legitimate radio version so there is no need to flash the same one over the top of it. The only caveat is that installing the 1.66 ROM might downgrade your radio version in which case you will have to flash it back to 2.15.50.14.

It looks like you will have to downgrade your ROM first. You're using a default SPL (Secondary Program Loader -- it functions just like BIOS on a PC) instead of HSPL (Hard SPL). Hard SPL will allow you to install unsigned/custom ROMS while the regular SPL will not. The post I pointed you to for installing HSPL3 says the following:

You must have any SPL version from this list on your device:
SPL 1.42.0000
SPL 1.62.0000
SPL 1.66.0000
SPL 2.07.0000
SPL 2.08.0000
SPL 2.10.0000
You should have this SPL version unless you are using the latest 3.14 ROM with SPL 3.03.0000. No worry, just downgrade your Windows Mobile ROM from v3.14 to v1.66 will do. Download HTC HD2 v1.66 ROM.

Looks like you are indeed using the latest 3.14 ROM so you will need to flash the 1.66 ROM to your phone first and then you can install 2.08HSPL. Just go download the 1.66 ROM from HTC's European web site and run the program. It should only take a few minutes and is a very simple process (you should be fully guided through):

Check your radio version after flashing this to see if it changed your radio version as well.


Edit: Maybe using HSPL4 will allow you install HSPL 2.08 directly from the SPL 3.03 you have now? I don't know but it's a thought. You're probably better off just downgrading to 1.66 and then using HSPL3 to push the right version on there though. We know this process definitely works.


P.S. Note that it says it's not for T-Mobile(US) HD2 phones. That's because the radio could brick one of our phones. It will work fine for you however. ;)
