Noob, please help.

I'm new to Android and while I love it I need a little help. Currently I am running overkill on Antivirus and system cleaning apps. Can anyone recommend an app or set of apps that will take care of antivirus and systems sweeping/cleaning/optimization without me having multiples of the same stuff?

You don't need any antivirus software if you download apps from trustworthy sources like the Google Play Store and Amazon. If you download apps from untrustworthy sources then antivirus software may not help you anyway. Android antivirus software is useless and is targeted at people who think that Android is like Windows.

You also don't need a sweeping/cleaning/optimization app. The Android OS is not like Windows. There is no registry to gum up. Install the apps you want. Delete the apps you don't want. There's nothing to optimize.

You should get apps from trustworthy sources. You should check permissions when installing something. There's a thread that explains permissions here.

About the cleaning apps: not only is there no registry, you don't need to worry about apps taking up memory either. Android keeps things in RAM for quick access and removes things as needed. i.e. The OS will take care of that itself.

You may need to occasionally install ad-detector if you're getting push ads. But you don't need antivirus or cleaner apps as long as you use common use when installing apps. Stay away from sites offering free paid downloads, and be pay attention to permissions, especially with live wallpapers (are people still using those?).

Welcome to the forums!! :D

You don't need either. :)

Download apps from trusted sources like the Google play store and there is really no need for an antivirus app. Google regularly scans the play store for malware and will keep you about as safe as you can be.

All the above support is correct however, if you still prefer using an all in one app I'll answer & recommend one I used for a long time when I first got into android that helped me out: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...droid&pcampaignid=APPU_r1Z9U76bE8uisASBvYCIDw. Manually killing apps to clean/reclaim memory is not recommended so be sure to use the white list in any apps settings & add all system apps & the like to it or boosting app buttons & the one click buttons offered will just put more strain on android as they just restart anyhow. Hope it helps & welcome to android! :)

i don't get why you all suggest that a cleaning app doesn't have some utility. countless times i've uninstalled an app.....and some crap is left behind. you guys just leave it there? or just wait til you stumble upon it in a file manager?

i'm sort of digging sd maid lately.

I think there's a question of what is meant by "system cleaning". Apps do leave orphaned folders on sdcard when uninstalled, so a utility which helps clean those up may help (though that has no impact on performance, just space). But most people read "sweeping/cleaning/optimization" as "task killer/Ram cleaner/Memory optimizer" (the word "optimization" certainly implied that to me) and those things you don't want on your phone.

Cheers for the the tip mate I'll check that out. Tab could do with a. Spring cleaning. Any risks involved? (deleting stuff I need)

Yay cleared 2.7mb :D

I'm. Liking this app. Is it worth buying pro? Id like the "duplicates" function.
But.. I like to have a copy of certain files on my internal AND external sd. Would the app class them as duplicates?

Bought pro and freed up half a gig mainly by removing duplicates
