Root Noob Questions on flash_image

I want to try recovery flashes via adb instead of the Recovery Flasher app.
I found instructions for doing so, but have a couple of questions.

1) I downloaded some flash_image files but they're different sizes. Is flash_image proprietary to each phone?

2) Where would the file be placed? One instruction says to push it to /data/local while another said /system/bin.

1)no flash_image's are not phone specific, to my knowledge they are universal. they are different sizes depending upon the way the binarys are constructed.

2nd a push to /data/local is usually wen the system isnt read-write so instead it is pushed to /data/local which is always ready for writing.

this binary is from my cm10.1(samsung GS2 E4GT) i suggest deleting the one(copy paste somewhere else as a backup) and place this one and try it out link flash_image - 13.40 KB
