How about this one...

Earlier today I went into my clockworkmod/backup folder via solid explorer and renamed one of my backups. So let's say that I started with "A" and "B". After rename, I had "A" and "C". So just a while ago, I connected phone to pc via USB and navigated in windows to clockworkmod/backups and found myself looking at 3 folders, A,B, and C. I double checked by navigating to same place on phone with solid explorer and verified that it only contains 2... A, and C.

With me so far?

Here is where it gets weird

Via windows7, only one of the folders actually seems to contain anything... folder A (the one that wasn't changed today). The other two show as being empty with no files/folders/bytes

But if I look at them via solid explorer, everything seems correct (only two folders... the one that wasn't renamed and the one that was... both containing the proper backup files)

The reason I connected phone to pc in the first place was to backup my newly renamed backup to my pc. But it shows as being empty.

Anyone got any ideas?

Did you check to makes sure you are using admin permissions and that you can see hidden files... Just a guess.. Also maybe reboot your comouter or try a different port... There are so many different things it could be...also try maybe plugging your SD card into a car reader or doing the UB Mount and USB storage and try looking that way

Strange question, but relevant. Do you have a lock screen pattern/pin set on your phone? I ask because I had that bug with my N7 where if I set a lock screen, I could only see certain directories while in MTP mode, but if I removed it, everything viewed fine. IIRC, the fix was re-installing the rom, but first I would try removing the lock pattern and seeing if that helps.

rebooted phone and tried it again and everything is fine. I guess there was still some ghost data left over from when I renamed the file.

The problem seems fixed after phone reboot but to address your question... I do have a lock pin. If I see the problem again, I'll try removing it like you suggest to see if there is a difference.

Thanx Neph

Starting yesterday, I have another new problem, not associated with the one in the opening post of this thread but I figured I'd just seek assistance in this one for now

When I leave my phone on the charger over night, It won't turn on in the morning unless I pull the battery. I'm on Elemental X ROM. I've restored an earlier nandroid of Ele X but it did it again this morning. Does that sound like a hardware or software issue?

Is it off while on the charger? There's been an issue with it not rebooting properly and other weirdness when plugged in. Are you unplugging before you try to turn on? I usually leave mine plugged in and turned on overnight, have never had a problem with it "waking up", but I usually make sure it's unplugged whenever I reboot, just to be safe!

I always leave it on when charging. It just wont wake up after being on charger all night without pulling battery

Are you using the stock charger? Other than that I'm guessing it's a ROM issue, maybe try AOKP for a couple days and see if it still happens.

Using stock charger. Flashing AOKP now

You should edit your first post to update the thread title with the discussed problems...

Also... using the stock charger and Pac rc1. Plugged my phone in with it off... flashes LG once goes blank then hand at the second LG screen. Never goes to the charging battery screen.

Not sure how to be of more help since adb isn't going at that low of a level.

As per Yoinx's advice, I've edited the title of this thread being as how I've just started rooting and ROMing and tend to have many various questions. I'll just post them here so I don't have to keep starting new threads. Anyone else who has root questions please feel free to post them here also.

I applied a theme a couple of days ago in ElementalX rom and lost my notification bar today (AGAIN!!!) so I had to restore an earlier nandroid. When I try to apply the said theme, I get a message saying "improperly compiled so it can't be applied." I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling theme but still same message. Why did it work a couple days ago but won't now?

Edit: if fact, ALL of my previously applied themes are saying this. Why?

Edit#2: Found a workaround. Had to uninstall theme then clear data/forceclose "theme provider" and "themes" in settings/apps then reinstall theme and apply. Guess I'll have to do this every time I try out or switch to a new theme.

Anyone experience this?

That's a common problem with the Theme chooser, just apply System theme, reboot, and should be good to go.

When i flash a nightly, can i just dirty flash ( which I assume means to clear the cache, delvik, but not the data, correct)

TDM posted a few quotes about this the other day. with CM nightlies, you should clean flash. With CM stable releases you can dirty flash. Any other rom/kang you're on your own...

Dirty flashing you don't wipe anything, just flash the rom and reboot.

Just to confirm, the 5-25 nightly blue screens like cm... Not that this is a shocker since its built off cm.

Not that yoinx is wrong but I do want to say that you can dirty flash a nightly. The rom in most cases will work fine but what tdm was saying is that officially CM says that only the stable releases are built to be dirty flashed and any bugs you may run into from doing so can be reported and marked as a real bug. If you dirty flash a nightly and get bugs then it's not considered a problem that needs reporting since the nightly roms are experimental. To better assist the rom teams with bugs in nightlies it's better to do a clean flash to eliminate any chance of getting bugs from a dirty flash.

If you aren't running roms to report bugs (ie testing) and you are just a crack flasher, then I say dirty flash away and you'll find that it will rarely cause you issues. I personally always dirty flash the first time if I'm flashing the same rom. If I run into issues then I'll do a clean flash.

I would also suggest that you wipe delvek and cache when dirty flashing.

Again I'm not saying yoinx is wrong but I wanted to provide an alternative view. :]

Personally... I don't wipe anything when flashing unless I have an issue. Then I reboot wipe and continue on. I don't see much reason to wipe prior to flashing... since the room writes to system and you don't wipe that anyway normally out to reflash post wipe.

After I flash new rom and restore apps with TB, will they still update from Play store if i originally downloaded from there? Or do I need to manually link them. Not really sure what the whole "link to play store" function is all about.
