ok so im making the jump to android finally.

still waiting for my phone to get here. pretty excited to tackle the learning curve.

i've taken a glance at the app market but im a bit confused.

i cant tell which apps are for phones or tablets or both. they seem to be all mixed up.

for instance im anxious to find some photoshop type app see that photoshop touch seems to be for android tablets and such.

any way to just find strictly phone apps. or am i just clueless and most android apps work on anything android regardless whether its a tablet or a phone?

Hello, welcome to the forum.

The market you see on your computer browser shows all apps that are available for Android. Not all of these will be available for your phone, depending on the device some may not function at all.

What will happen is that once you get your new phone and set it up with a Google account you will be able to log into the market on the phone and see only the apps that are available for your phone.

In the web browser you will see a green or yellow box under the install button on the left hand side. The green box will tell you that this app is compatible with a phone you have and the yellow box will tell you that the app is not compatible.

Unfortunately, until you get your device you won't be able to distinguish apps that will work from apps that don't. You can try to do a search for the name of your device however and see if any apps specifically list your device as not working or working for that particular app. Not all apps will that this information listed, but it is a starting point.

Which phone are you getting and what is your carrier?

Edit: Never mind, I see that you are getting a Samsung Skyrocket. Your phone will be running Gingerbread which is Android 2.3. Most of the apps shown in the market will show what version of Android is required to run the app on the right hand side of the screen where is says "About this app". Since most of the apps currently on the market will show "REQUIRES ANDROID: 2.0 and up" or "REQUIRES ANDROID: 2.1 and up" you should be good.

ok i see.

still kind of seems odd to me that they aren't categorized on the regular site but no biggie.

thanks for clearing that up. i cant wait to see what this phone can do.

I bought each of my parents one of those for Christmas. You'll love it.

The market on the web is kind of a newer thing. There are still some kinks in it, but they get sorted. Once you have everything set up, it works great and you can even install to your phone from the website.

And even then, the Market doesn't get it 100% right (or maybe it's misinformation supplied to them by the developer). Case in point: Zeam launcher is supposedly not compatible with Honeycomb, yet it works perfectly on my GTab 10.1 when sideloaded.

I think that is the developer majority of the time. You may want to send an email and let them know it works for you.

I don't mean to help hijack the thread, but it seems relevant to where it's going.

I'm on my third model of phone, and have had some exchanges at each step. I notice that ALL of those individual phones (not just the models) show up on the website; at this point I have almost a dozen phones listed under my account. Is there a way to clear out the old ones? Google never responded to my query...

I have a bunch of phones listed too. I have found a way to hide one at a time, but no way to remove any of them.
