Apps Noob to Android Development. Suggestions on good books?

I'm looking into learning Android development and have browsed what amazon and Barnes and noble have to offer. Anyone out there have any book suggestions for this beginner?

We were encouraged to read 'Beginning Android Application Development' by Wei-Meng Lee in our Wireless Application: Android class to supplement our studies. You may want to check out the same book as well.

If you're keen to learn Java read the other replies. Alternatively you may like to start with something simpler. There's Easy Coder, a high-level scripting system that runs on your phone. It's in development but there's enough there to be useful. The product website has tutorial and example scripts for download plus a user area where you can edit your own scripts.
