Noob to Tasker

I have been a user of Settings Profile since I have the OG Droid, but noticed that the developer has pretty much abandoned the app as they haven't made an update since Dec 1, 2012, plus location based rules are not accurate. I'm currently trying a demo version of Tasker to replace it, but lost. I'm trying to set it so that when I'm home, a group of settings comes on (Wifi enabled, ringer/notification/media volume to a certain levels, gps off, ect), not at home (wifi off, lower ringer/not volumes), when at work (wifi off, phone muted), when in car dock mode (GPS on), when at the movies (muted with low display), sleeping (low display light, muted notifications) and working out (no notifications/ringers, but media loud). I want most of these profiles from SP to be done automatically, with the movies & workout profiles triggered manually. How can I set Tasker to do this or is there a better app to do this.

Tasker is absolutely capable of doing what you want, but you will have to put in some effort to learn how to use it.

Rather than re-hash what others have done, how about if I instead share some useful tutorials?

The Tasker user interface is a little clunky and takes some getting used to. Don't give up on it. The power that Taker finally puts in your hands is well worth the investment.
