Root noob wants to root

Ok, like the title says. including the handle. I'm a noob. I've jailbroke ios devices but never a droid. I have an old droid 1 I want to experiment with. It's running 2.2.2
I've found a ton of confusing stuff on the web so I've come to the experts with hope of someone to help a noob out.
