Noob wifi question

You are all likely going to laugh at this, and I admit, you have every right too. For the first time today I am trying to enable the wifi on my droid when I am at home and have been unable to get it to work.

I turned it on, connected it to my home Wifi, used the correct password, and it says it is connected, and has been assigned an IP addressed. However, it isn't connecting to any websites or anything else in any of the browsers.

I have tried both the native and dolphin.

Am I missing something?
 
That's all you should have to do - if you see your droid has been assigned an IP, it should work.

I assume you see the signal strength icon in the notification bar - does that show a good signal?

I have experienced the issue you raise - connected to my home network but unable to access web sites. It's happened to me as recently as today after I had turned WiFi on and off repeatedly while I was testing some stuff. I had to reboot to get things working again...I'm on a custom 2.1 ROM, however, so that may be the issue in my case.
 
Signal strenth is bouncing between 1 and 2 bars, fair to good. I have rebooted twice to try and get it to work and that didn't work either.
 
I've had an issue with my wi-fi where it will have connected just fine, and I turn it off, turn it back on in a few minutes and it refuses to connect.

I downloaded Wi-Finder from the Market (free) and it does a GREAT job of re-finding the wi-fi signal and logging back on.

Perhaps that app will help you.
 
Wi-Finder didn't find my home Wi-Fi, so it didn't do anything, just showed me hotspots in the area.

Anyone else have any ideas?
 
Try the Wi-Fi Analyzer in the marketplace...it recommends a channel to set the router too with best signal. I love it.

Sorry -- my fault. You downloaded the wrong WiFinder. What you want is WiFinder (no hyphen) by pgmsoft.
 
Ok, got WiFinder. It connected.

I checked on the network, it tells me good signal strength. It passed encyption (my wife works at home, we need encryption), channel 1, and the IP address is good. Yet when I launch any browser it still will not give me a website.
 
I had similar problems with my Droid when I first got it; it turned out to be a problem with my wireless router and not my Droid. I'm not saying your router is the problem, I just though that it was definitely my phone, when the problem was elsewhere.
 
Start by powering off the router for a while and powering it back on... then power the droid off and on. I've experienced this problem on rare ocassion and powering off only one or the other didn't help, but both worked. Sometimes things in the electron world just need a reset.
 
just noticed in another section that the reason behind my issues is that the droid will not support Wireless N, only Wireless G. Anyone know a way to switch this since my wife's company requires a wireless n router

The Motorola tech specs for the Droid say B and G wireless only. There is nothing to switch on or off.
 
I'm not on wireless N yet but I was under the impression that when I get my new router older wireless G devices will be compatible.
Is there not an option on the router setup to enable B and G as well.
I know on mine you can either have just G or G and B.
 
Went into wireless settings and changed a couple of the router settings around, opened it up to a broader channel on Wireless N and now the droid is rocking the wi-fi.
