Umm, why don't you want the update?

Coco, I thought you were on CM7?

You only have to worry about upgrade if you're rooted and on B&N v.1.2.

i dont want the upgrade imposed on me. i want to choose. i did buy the nc afterall. further i like how my nc is set up now and do not want to constantly have to change it because bn wants to add something that i may or may not want.

as to my personal preference, i tried cm7 and phiremod but i mostly use the nc as a reader with radio in background. therefore a plain, rooted overclocked nc 1.2 is fine with me. plus i take a perverse delight in running kindle on the nc...lol:D. i am still learning all the things it can do and types of ebooks available and where. my work gives me a stock htc evo4 phone and i found that cm7 seemed to make the nc feel simular to the work phone rather than a reader/ tablet.

if bn decides to continue with these updates, i guess i will permanently switch to cm7. i was hoping there was a way to stop the update from within the rooted nc 1.2

I suspect there's a nook updater file that can be renamed, but as to the name of the file and location, I wouldn't know that.

hi all, just went into my rooted nook and there was a download from bn. deleted it. we'll see. off topic is ther an app to turn off the dialer on the nc. uses 44% of battery. thx, cocomm:confused:

I'm moving your thread to the "root" section. :D

You could try this

  • Create a backup in recovery :D
  • Open Root Explorer or a similar app.
  • Tap system folder to open it
  • Tap app folder to open it
  • Tap the "mount r/o" button at the top to change the folder to read-write
  • Find phone.apk and long press it to bring up a menu
  • Choose rename
  • Rename phone.apk to phone.bak
  • Rename telephonyprovider.apk to telephonyprovider.bak
  • Tap the "mount r/w" button at the top to change the folder back to read-only
  • Reboot nook.

The free versions of Astro or Linda would also work.

once again thank you thank you. phone doesnt even show up on battery usage any more. positivily outstanding:D. only root explorer worked tho, free ones didnt let me do r/w, but $4 well spent. too bad the nook app is lame compared to the nc. the kindle works fine enuff. thx, cocomm

Glad it worked. I saw the fix on XDA, but that was using ADB scripts, that would require DL'ing and installing tools you'd probably never use again.

damn ecm's.(electronic counter measures) reminds me of the old dave, dtv, days and superbowl. i got zapped with 1.3. lost gapps, tweaks (kernal), tools and some others. funny thing is i kept kindle...lol. will start playing with it later and let you know. cocomm
