Not a smart phone !

Hi , I just want to share with you a conversation with o2 that I've just had . After being shuffled around a little from operator to operator finally one started to help me , I'm having internet problems on my Desire , constantly getting a white screen saying " SORRY HTTP request has been interupted by host " . So anyway this lady starts by saying what phone do I have I say HTC Desire she say's " oh I only do smartphones , lot's of people think the HTC Desire is a smartphone but it's not . Iphone and Palm PRE are ".
This annoyed me , but then what do o2 customer service operators know about phones .

Dear God

This is fine by me. From what I recall, O2 put "smartphones" on higher tariffs for data packages. If they want to call the Desire a dumbphone and charge less for data, I'm cool with that! :D

As I wanted her help I accepted the slight with a polite " I think its very smart " . But the problem is persisting so she didn't help anyway .

That's very funny :-)
Desire is more smartphone than iPhone imo

Btw if your phone is new from o2 make sure the internet
Apn is set correctly. Mine was set to wap rather than mobile
By o2 shop!

Cheers

Hi Dan many thanks for tip , have changed settings , will see how I get on. Can't see why settings would have changed, my internet on this phone has always been amazing , one of the reasons I love the Desire so much , up until a few weeks ago when problems started .

I occasionally get the "SORRY HTTP request has been interupted by host" on O2 so I've changed my apn from wap to mobile. I'll let you know how I get on.

I use dolphin for browsing , if new settings dont work will try stock browser see if that makes a difference and report back .

Don't have any issues on WAP on O2.

What is the difference betwwen this and Mobile. O2 advised the use of WAP for me (on 30 day simplicity tariff)

i thought wap was old style? :/ ie slower - but not sure - mobile seems to work better for me - although internet isnt as quick as i hoped it would be :(

That's a shame because mobile internet is so fast for me I hardly ever bother switching wifi on at home and since I changed settings as you suggested things have been back to normal.

dont tell me that :( :D

glad the apn change help

i know - maybe i expect too much - its quicker than my old iphone 3g, but it certainly aint blisteringly quick

how quick does yours load forum pages? im mainly on here - i know this site is especially slow so others say

cheers
dan

Browsing on my Desire is fairly quick when I have an H signal, which seems to be a lot of the time for me at home or at work on Orange. Definitely faster at home though on WiFi.

hi - yes just did wifi/H test and wifi was lots quicker

with 3g/H even with good dload speed internet seems to take longer :/

In an unscientific test loading this page on wifi and mobile internet with the H symbol, wifi was fastest by one second, five times out of five , but I think that's very close. To load the page the phone takes about seven to ten seconds , not sure how quick that is in mobile phone terms but my mates iphone4 can't match it.

hi
thanks for the stats. yes I'd say that was about right for
H data. I think my wifi test was 2 secs quicker.

I find the 3 sec pause at begining very frustrating
