Help NOT charging PLEASE HELP

My tablet isnt charging. It only charges when its powered off but when I charge it when the tablet is on it shows an X, and i use the charger that it came from. My computer doesnt recoginze my tablet, and The Samsung Technical person its the tablet software problem. HELP:confused::confused::confused::confused::mad::mad:

The red X indicates that the tablet is charging at the lower, 0.9a rate, which is why you need to leave it off to charge.

This is most likely due to a bad cable between your charger and the device.

The Galaxy series of tablets (and newer smart phones) look for specific voltages on the data lines of the cable to determine the safest charging rate available. If those data lines are not showing to the device, it assumes it is connected to a computer, which is limited to the aforementioned 0.9a due to limitations in the original USB specification.

A missing data line would also explain why your computer doesn't recognize the device when it is plugged in.

So how do i fix it?

Find a replacement data cable.

I got mine through Amazon, a nice 6' cable so my wife could read in bed whilst charging.

So, you have two different chargers. Are they both the larger, 2a blocks? The outfit information should be on the block, though you might need a magnifying glass to read it.

Do you have two data cables?

I am assuming that these two chargers are both genuine Samsung bricks. Third-party chargers are not likely going to provide the right inputs to your device for quick charging, though there are workarounds for getting your tablet to charge at a higher current with chargers that can push 2a or more.

I would have guessed that the 30 pin/USB Samsung cable would be the more critical part and any 2A wall plug (like Anker sells) would do.

I have 1 2a Block that samsung gave me and 2 data cables.

So, neither data cable gives you good charging speeds with your existing brick?

The problem with third-party chargers like the Anker (at least the Anker I have) is that they do not specifically address the special requirements of the Galaxy line. There just aren't an overwhelming number of them out there, compared to, say iPhones, which is why Anker and others tailor a port (or the entire charger) to that brand.

As I said, there are workarounds- Pwr+ makes a little adapter that goes between the data cable and your third-party charger that fools the Samsung device into thinking that it is attached to a Samsung 2a charger. They are cheap and portable, so that is one way to go, particularly if you tend to plug into a variety of chargers. Of course, if the charger you are plugging into its only capable of providing 1a or less current through its port, then the adapter is not going to do much for you...

I gave it to The repair shop at samsung and they told me it was the software.

Well, I am not a Samsung repairman, so I can't say whether they are making things up or not. If they tried one of their chargers and it did the same thing, then it seems like the device itself is at fault.

I, personally, don't see where software would necessarily come into play, but like I said-- I'm not a Samsung tech.

I just checked the description on my Anker on amazon, I don't think mine is compatible either. Never tried it but I got it I thought it'd be a backup if my OEM went on the fritz.

Popular Compatible Models:
...
Other Devices:Nexus 7 @2Amp, PSP / Nexus 10 etc. @1.5Amp (NOT compatible with Samsung Galaxy Tabs and Asus Transformers.)

I would have thought it'd need to use the 2A side; and the wording doesn't actually exclude it.

I really hate that Samsung used a proprietary cable. And of course, their current tablets now use the standard mini-usb ports.

Well, as I mentioned, there's the adapter that Pwr+ sells for a few bucks, and there is a microUSB to 30-pin adapter (originally for the P1000) that achieves the same thing in that it fools the Galaxy into thinking it is plugged into a higher amperage charger. I think I paid less than $4 for that.

There is a Mini and a Micro USB port which are not interchangeable. The Mini is rarely used today (it was used on my Palm Pilot), the Micro USB is used on almost everything which doesn't have an apple on it.

Yeah, I meant Micro, thanks.
