Help Not charging

My battery is running lower and lower as my S5 tells me that it is charging.

I have it plugged into the charger it came with, but not the cable. Last night I was able to charge it with a different wall charger and different cable.

Any ideas of what could be causing this? I have it off and plugged in, and its still losing its charge while telling me it is charging

The older USB 2.0 cables are not all of good quality.
I proved that to myself by going through a pile of them here.

1 or 2 would give about 500 mA charge with the fleaBay a/c adapters I had on hand.

The OEM S5 a/c adapter with the OEM USB 3.0 cable will charge at about 2.1 amps or close to it. The time from 10% to 100% is about 90 minutes.

The old cables might keep up with the S5 while I am using it, or they might not.

I now have a new better quality USB 2.0 cable connected to my desktop PC that I use for moving files <=> to/from the phone/pc. That cable will actually charge at about 10% increased charge per hour.

I suggest you use the OEM charger with the OEM cable and make a determination about the charge rate. Nothing else is dependable IMO.

Turns out I got a defective device, went in to Verizon after I was done with work, after a tried every combination of charger/cable, the charger and cable or came with wouldn't even charge it.
As far as charging with a USB 2.0 there shouldn't be a difference as the benefit of USB 3 is faster data transfer. And with my new phone it charges the same regardless of which cable I use.
They gave me a brand new s5 (after I had gotten everything set up how I wanted haha) after teeing a new battery and factory reset. Since it was one day old they considered it DOA

Been there, done that, we needed the practice setting the phone up :)

About the cables, some of the older ones have a smaller gauge charging wire and therefore present more resistance to the charging current.

A good quality USB 2.0 cable and the USB 3.0 cables all use the same charging pins, and therefore should charge the same....

I had on hand a bunch of ultra cheap $1.99 crap charger/cable stuff. No quality control there. No name either.
