I am out of internal memory, and I am missing updates because of it.
(1) technical details
I have searched, and not found answers. I have found a few close threads (2) - but they don't really address the big picture.
Here is what I've done.
* I installed an SD card to add memory when I got the phone.
* Step one to remove stuff from "internal memory" is to move it to the SD card. I moved everything that allowed it to the SD card. Most apps had "move to SD card" greyed out.
* I've deleted most photos and stuff, and I don't have but a few extra apps. Fairly minimal setup.
*Deleted or disabled extra and unnecessary stuff, like Google play movies - I'm NOT going to be watching any movies on my phone. And Deezer. HOWEVER, they still occupy significant Mb space on the internal mem.
The phone is not rooted.
There is leftover junk on the internal drive from a number of less-than-necessary programs (which I have disabled and removed, except some refuse to be removed). Hundreds of Mb, maybe more, is being used by "uninstalled" and "disabled" programs. I don't have root privilege to delete that usage.
So what is next? I am avoiding rooting the phone due to the complexity of that action. If I have to do it, I will. Is there anything else I can do first? I've been a linux user of several distros - so I'm not entirely unfamiliar - but Android seems to have some special quirks that make it a bit more, ahem, "individual"?
Please advise.
(1) phone is Kyocera Hydro, model C6742, provider Cricket, internal mem = 3.44 GB (where do they get these oddball amounts?), 3.34 Mb free. SD = 1.84 Gb, 1.23 Gb available. Android 5.1.1.
