Help NOT ENOUGH MEMORY – SOLVED

Polterry

Newbie
I like many other members have experienced frustration with memory problems. Mine in particular revolved around trying to update apps. I looked at rooting and was worried about the risks of “bricking” phone. I have just recently managed to solve the problem on my Cubot phone. I was running Android 4.2, 1 GB RAM, phone storage 16GB, 16GB SD card. These are the steps I took

1. Moved all apps on SD card to phone memory

2. Unmounted and removed SD card

3. Set default storage to phone

4. Menu booted (pressed on/off and sound keys at same time)

5. Reset to factory settings

6. Upon restart I had Android 3.? (I cannot remember no) lots of memory

7. I started to install various apps that I wanted and still lots of memory.

8. There was an auto update of apps that included Android 4.2 and lots of memory was gone

9. I went to the Google app and uninstalled last update, restarted and memory was back.

10. I re-inserted SD card and checked that I could still access all files there

11. I continued installing extra apps until memory was not enough for a large app.

12. I then went through all apps and moved app to SD card where possible.

13. Lots of memory back and I now have just about all apps that I want.

I appreciate that mine may be a unique case but if it helps any other members also solve the problem then I am pleased to pass on information. I was getting around to risking rooting but now I have a great phone set up how I want it.
