Root Not even sure how to describe problem :(

First off, im sorry if this is the wrong forum, or its been posted before, but i have no idea how to even start searching for how to fix this.

I have a friends evo 4g, trying to fix it for him. the phone turns on and gets to what looks like the home screen. signal shows, charge, time all show, but none of the buttons work at all. I cant drag down the notification bar, cant change volume, cant do anything but lock the phone with power button and turn off by taking battery out.

I think he has the phone rooted, but no idea with what or even how to find it. Got the phone plugged into usb, but computer not showing it. I downloaded the drivers for it, still nothing.

Again, im sorry if this was posted somewhere else, just trying to figure out how in the hell to fix this lol.

Thanks in advance

/EDIT

I figured out how to get it to show in computer, just need to know how to "reset" the phone I guess.

Power and volume down, not volume up

This will bring you to H-boot.
If S-OFF your probably rooted.

I would go into recovery and wipe dalvik cache and cache and reboot.

If that doesnt work I'd reflash his ROM

Got into recovery and I am able to mount so the computer sees it.

For what it's worth, I think I forgot to mention, he did a factory reset (I think), so I have a different sd-card in the phone. Is there a file or zip I can put on the sd-card to have it flash back to stock?

Again, I hope this isn't to confusing for yall, bc it sure is for me lol.

I installed adb but am unsure of how to go about finding something to flash it to stock with, if that would even fix the problem.

Ok good, your rooted.

I would put MIkG on there for him. It still pretty much stock but alot better in most peoples opinions.

MikG download and info:
http://themikmik.com/showthread.php?10338-MikG-v3-0-12-17-2011

Put it on the SD card and go into recovery.
Wipe Dalvik cache, cache, data, SD-android secure, SD-ext, and system 2-3 times each to make sure its clean.

Then choose flash zip from sd card, select mikG, install it and reboot and you should be good to go

Depending on your recovery dalvik cache may be in an advanced option menu
