Not get internet on my dater plan

I recently purchased an HTC Desire HD unlocked and trying to use it on my dater provider. The phone seem not to be able to get internet connection. I have gone through all the correct settings and everything that needs to be on is on. I have a blackberry that is on EDGE and this is the sim card I am using in the HTC. Can anyone tell me if there is anything I can do to fix this problem or is it something I have just have to take into my dater provider and they do their do?

Why would the SIM be different? I've had the same SIM since I joined TM, and it's been through Motorola, BB, Samsung, Nokia. Also the Nokia and one Samsung were unlocked, and European. In fact, the Galaxy 3 was in Czech, which changed to English as soon as I put the SIM in. The Motorola RIZR was the first phone.
BB has it's own system, for push and a TM BB usually has UMA (wifi). - If your SIM came with the BB, and you had BB BES, BIS, I suppose it could be programmed in.
My unlocked phones used EDGE, and got internet just fine.
I could get online with my own router using the BB UMA and my settings, but damned if I could do it anywhere else. (Except a TM hotspot)
There is supposedly a different plan for Android and BB, but this shouldn't affect wifi.
If you had a BB data plan, then you might get a notice about switching. Did you have a data plan with the BB?
It is possible to go without a plan on an unlocked phone. You have to enable wifi.

Looks like your HTC doesn't recognize a Blackberry SIM card, does it?
I don't see anything in the OP that definitely states this. If the voice portion works then the SIM is recognized whether data works or not. However, if the device indicates that the SIM isn't recognized or rejected then the assumption you've made would be a reasonable conclusion.

...and there's no such thing as a "Blackberry SIM". The SIM's come from the carriers, not RIM.

There is supposedly a different plan for Android and BB, but this shouldn't affect wifi.
Shouldn't matter for data. BB data plans are supersets of "standard" data plans. The only difference is that they grant access to the BB APN. If the device isn't a BB then it simply won't use the BB APN.

It is possible to go without a plan on an unlocked phone.
Depends on the carrier and the device. I mean, despite your claim, it's possible to have a carrier force a data plan with an unlocked device. Whether or not there's a subsidy lock isn't the criteria that carriers use that force data plans.

Most TM BB do have UMA which is wifi. Right now TM does not force a data plan if you bring or buy your own device outright. I know it's possible for a carrier to force a data plan. I don't mind paying for data. TM did have 2 different plans. I think it was to accommodate the BB BES system. If you had a BB that you bought outright, you could pass on the BES. I used an 8220 Pearl Flip with talk and text only. A family member will inherit that phone as he is phone only. There has to be some info on the SIM. I've had the thing for 6 years, and every phone I've had, even the unlocked, picked up the services I've registered. There have been BB users who have had to switch to an "Android" plan. (Same price at the time) - some can just switch the SIM, some can't.

Could you give us more details about what settings you have put in your DHD (Mobile network settings => Acces Point Names)? Also what mobile carrier are you with??

Looks like your HTC doesn't recognize a Blackberry SIM card, does it?

BTW, it's "data plan", not "dater plan". Unless your carrier is in the dating business, of course.

JLang, nice attitude!!!

Cheers

I switch my sim from my Bberry to my DHD with no probs as my Bberry service provider offer 14.2mbps ad opppsed to 1.5ish from my personal provider, which issue massive difference when I need to create a WiFi hotspot for my laptop.

So would doubt its the sim.

Go to Home Screen > Add Widget > Settings > Mobile

See if you can make that ON if you push it. Thats how I turn on my mobile data. I think its not just 3G data.

I rushed in to the thread hoping to avail of the "Dater Plan" (I'm currently single) and now feel a tad silly.
