Help Not rebooting after Cache Partition Wipe

Hey, guys... I have an issue with doing a Cache Partition Wipe, and was wondering if you can help.

I have done a wipe before, and never encountered any issues. But after doing the latest update (just a few days ago), I thought it would be a good idea to wipe the cache partition as well. When I go ahead with the procedure, it starts off just fine, but then after the usual few minutes the wipe takes, the phone won't restart or go back to any of the menu screens. It just displays-- or should I say, flashes-- the "No Command" screen (with the droid on his back) for a split second, repeating every few seconds. I let it stay that way for at least 10-15 minutes (thinking maybe it was still part of the wipe), but it never stopped. I had to do a reset (power and volume buttons) to get the phone back and boot up again.

Has anyone ever encountered this? Is it a normal part of the Cache Partition Wipe? Should I just let it stay on that screen for longer? I don't remember that happening last time in did a wipe. And do you think the wipe even finished?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

In my 64GB Turbo it runs for 7 minutes and then goes back to the menu with the Start System option. Just select it and it boots normally.

From your brief description it sounds like the Wipe Cache Partition procedure was not followed or the update you ran was somehow flawed.

I suggest you try it again and if it has the same result take it into Verizon.

(Some people take exception to this ... I run the Wipe Cache Partition on my Turbo every Saturday as part of normal weekly maintenance.)

Hey, Thom... thanks for the quick reply!

I've run the wipe before, and it has always worked just as you said-- after the few minutes of the procedure, it goes back to the menu, and I just select restart. But not this time. I've tried it three times now (since the last update), and it does the same thing-- instead of going back to the menu, it just flashes that droid image for a split second, and keeps doing it, unless force a reboot.

Do you think I should take it in first, or should I try a FDR maybe?

Thanks again for the help!

Asking the obvious here but are you using the steps for Lollipop? Clearing cache has different steps depending on the software version.
I don't know if that would account for your issues though.

It depends on how prepared you are for a Factory Data Reset.

It should not be needed after the last uptake. Did you do one after updating to 5.1? If not it might be time. My rule of thumb is to always do one on a major update and always do a Wipe Cache Partitions after a minor update.

Something pretty important is wrong with your Turbo.

If they decide to replace it, the last thing yo9u will do before turning it in is a Factory Data Reset. When you do the problem might disappear.

Hey, guys... thanks again for the quick replies!

@Thom: No, I didn't do one after the 5.1 update. I just did a cache wipe then.

@Clementine: Yup, following the right steps. I've done it (successfully) at least two or three times since the 5.1 update. It's just this time that it's giving me the problem.

Well, I'll try it again and see what happens. But after three attempts with the same results, I'm not too confident.

Thank you again, guys!

I am pretty sure that long-pressing the power button for about 10 seconds will force a restart of the phone - this is the replacement for a battery pull on Motorola phones without removable batteries. The phone should restart normally.

I just had this happen to me for the first and hopefully, only time. I do a cache partition weekly and never had any issues until now. The one difference between now and the other times is, I had it plugged into the Turbo charger that the phone came with. I don't know if that caused it, but it's enough of a coincidence that I won't try it again with it plugged in. After I unplugged it and got the phone to boot up normally, I successfully did a normal cache partition wipe with no issues.
