not receiving all texts..

I have a sumsung galaxy s3. i dropped it the other night, and now its not receiving all the texts. i should be getting a new one within a week, but in the meantime I really rely on texting because of work, and family is in town for the next few days. same thing with calls, i receive some and then i hear from my friend that they tried calling and i didnt know it. any ideas on ways i could get the messages/calls i didnt get the first time? i tried restarting it and all that.

Something is evidently intermittent in the phone - it could be something as simple as the antenna contact. But finding and fixing a problem like that isn't something to be done at home and it'll take longer to send it in, get it fixed and get it back than it will to get the replacement phone. So just live with it for the week.
