Not recognising song info (Samsung Galaxy SII)

Following the many replies and other threads, I have gone down the full version Poweramp route, its not perfect but slowly getting there. Impressive look to the screens easy to use menu's but more importantly by hooking up in mass media (not Kies) am managing to rename files and get them in their right places. Time consuming I know and if there is any app developer reading this, develop an App that does this automatically and you have your first sale.

I keep my music collection well tagged by artist, song name, album, etc. I have been using the stock music app on the Galaxy SII. Up until the last couple of days all of the song information showing title, artist and album always showed up. Now the artist name shows as "unknown" for most songs. The only app that seems to recognize the artist name is Google Play Music. I think when the Google Play Music app was installed it did something. It's a bit of a conspiracy theory but either way it is the only music player app I can use if I want to see the artist information for all songs.
