Not sure what to do.

My wife and I both have the LG Motion (which we LOVE btw) I honestly had planned on having this phone until it crapped out like I have all my other phones(my last phone I had for like 8 years). Unfortunately with the tmobile/metro merger I don't have that choice when they shut down CDMA.

Right now we're looking at getting the Kyocera Hyrdo Life. It looks like a damn good phone for the price range it's in.

My question is this, as far as money goes do we jump on this phone while it's on sale for $50? Or do we take the gamble and wait for it to get closer to the CDMA shutdown and see what kind of deals that metro/tmobile throws out?

Part of me hates the idea of losing out on this phone and getting stuck with some crappy phone for the same price range but at the same time I wonder if they'll actually drop some "awesomely epic" deals, as I've heard other people put it, right near the end to try and get people to switch over.

All advice/opinions will be appreciated as long as you're not a dick about it. :D

Another thing my wife mentioned that I forgot to is that another reason we're hesitant to wait is in case Metro fades away like Nextel did when they merged with Sprint. Because you heard all the same song/dance you are now with tmobile/metro. "Oh, we're just merging networks/companies. Nothing will "really" change that much." Then when people started switching over they had to pay sprints prices and the people that held their ground got grandfathered in and got to keep their plans. So we're hoping that IF we get the Hyrdo Life NOW and keep our plans that if Metro does get put on the back burner we can more than likely get grandfathered in with our current plan. Metro just released another brand new phone today, the Samsung Galaxy Light, and its only $49 dollars, and it has 8gb of internal storage.

I'd jump on that over a Kyocera phone ANY day.

And Metro isn't going anywhere, they have expanded the brand into new markets already.

They have the same amount of storage. 8gb total, 5gb available to user. Hyrdo Life has larger screen, higher resolution, more ram, longer battery life. Granted the Light has LTE and the Life doesn't, but this doesn't bother me as I don't use data very often. Usually only for GPS or rare streaming. I'm usually around Wi-fi.

I can understand how I was misunderstood the way I worded when I said "fade away". I didn't mean the company would actually disappear. I meant they were going to get put on the back burner like Nextel. You can still "sign up" with Nextel. However it's all just a front for Sprint. Sprint's network, Sprint's prices, Sprint's phones.
 
The LTE is why I would go samsung..if you don't care, go for the Hydro.

When it comes to the company, it won't fade in the background. Some phones will be duplicate on both brands, but some phones will be exclusive to each.
 
After talking with my wife and doing research pretty much all day I think we're set on the KHL.

However, what is everyone's feelings of grab them now at $50 a piece vs waiting until the closer of the shutting down of CDMA to see if other phones have come to market and what kind of deals they'll offer for the "stragglers"?

that you'll probably be SOL because they dont really do much for stragglers, not trying to sound rude, but they never did that in the past either

I've only been with Metro for about 1.5 years so I don't know much about their past history. I also don't really pay attention to phone sales/market/cycle either. I'm one of those people that buys a phone and uses it until it just physically can't be used anymore. If it weren't for the fact of us losing CDMA I'd probably use my Motion indefinitely. Thanks for the feedback!

no prob, I been with the company for a long time, so I know a little of the ins and outs of what they do
 
We ended up getting one of each. Hydro Life for me and Galaxy Light for her. Guess which one we're taking back? lol Don't get me wrong, she loves the Galaxy Light, but I guess there's a problem with Samsung Galaxy antennas that if you don't live in an area with great signal then the phone is constantly losing connection. On top of that once the phone gets down to 25%ish battery it COMPLETELY loses signal for some reason. No data/calls/texts/anything. The camera is much better on the Galaxy Light and for some reason even though the CPU on the GL is only .2ghz better than the HL and the HL has half a gig more of ram the GL scored better on Ubuntu/Quandrant. I'm not a huge fan of the "virtual sd" card on the HL because right now mine is full and my internal storage still shows 3gb left. However, there are some apps that are by default set to install to the SD card and since my virtual card shows "full" then it tells me I'm out of room. I'm also a little disappointed with there being no LTE on the HL BUT the speeds I get still aren't bad. When we were in strong signal areas the GL speed tests were usually 5x higher than the HL, but here's the funny part. Where we live is close to the edge of the coverage area and the HL gets better speed tests than the GL.

So, in conclusion, we're taking the Galaxy Light back and getting another Hydro Life.
