Help Note 2 won't charge

Hi all. Yesterday my Note 2 stopped charging, it has been working fine and generally is in good condition. I've tried a different charger and I've turned it off removed the battery and tried again. Is there anything else I can try?

This would be typical as I have just signed a new 12 month SIM only contract as I was happy with the phone

ETA Just in case it is broken, what's the best <£200 Android at the moment? I wondered about the Galaxy Alpha.

I found a post online suggesting taking the battery out, plugging the phone in and then putting the battery back and this seems to have reset it.
