Help Note 4 being weird

iMexi

Lurker
So I got a T-Mobile note 4, and straight out of the box, i noticed something was wrong. For one, the icon that pops out on the notification bar when you take oit the S-Pen stays there, no matter how many times I re-insert it or take it out. It only gows away with a reboot.

Then, sometimes when I try to open my phone, the screen will take 4-10 seconds to to turn on, and only stays lit for half a second, and repeats for a few more times.

I've already resetted the phone twice. Does anyone know a fix?

I don't remember my T-mo Note 4 having these two issues.
Admittedly,I didn't use the S-Pen much, but,I think I would have noticed if the icon in the status bar remained.
Also,I was on Kit-Kat 4.4.4 when I last had the phone,so,this could be a bug or two that appeared w/later updates.

A few ?'s regarding your phone,to help nail down what's going on:
1) Did you buy your phone new from T-Mobile,or used/other 3rd party from e-Bay/etc.....
2) Are you stock/unrooted or,are you running a ROM/root-only apps/Xposed modules?

One possibility that comes to mind w/the S-Pen is perhaps there's something in the S-Hole (sorry, couldn't pass up on that one,LOL :D ).
Could be something lodged in there that's causing the phone to think the S-Pen is still in use.
I'd try to vacuum the cavity vs forcing air in there, possibly lodging any contaminants even further into the phone.

If you bought the phone used or new from e-Bay,I'd call 'em up & send it back,if you're within the time frame to do so.
Talk to both e-Bay & the seller,to ensure a proper exchange/refund is taking place/documented before any return/exchange periods expire.

If you bought the phone from T-Mobile,it's covered either by the factory warranty for a new device,or,for a certified pre-owned device,90 days.

Nah dude I am running stock samsung tmo firmware on Android 5.1. I bought the phone new straight from Tmo but whenever i took it to them, the lock screen issue wouldnt happen and they say the s pen thing is minor. I checked if anything was lodged in there, but its all clean.

If you're within the 14 day grace period,I'd return it,get a refund (less the restocking fee, unless you can manage to get that waived).
Then,order another one.
Reason I suggest this is I haven't heard about the S-Pen mystery & very little about lockscreen lag.
If you get a warranty exchange after the 14-day priod, chances are you're gonna get a refurb. Not cool if you just got the phone.
Every mfg spits out a dud once in a while & quite possibly,it landed in your neighborhood.
Don't settle for anything less than a great experience out-of-the box new.
