Just a PSA, and a short story. mowing yard about 2 months ago, phone was in back pocket while listening to iheartradio. wasn't paying attention and stepped off into pool. Phone was completely under for about 20 seconds. jumped out of pool, stripped phone of headphones, battery, stylus, sim, sd. ran inside after i stripped off wet jeans, shirt. (luckily kids were at school so home alone)
1. poured isopropyl alcohol over phone and then submerged in bowl of alcohol.
2. shook phone until i could not find any alcohol left on it.
3. wrapped in wife's nylon sock and placed inside a tub of oatmeal.
4. shopped online for a new phone while i waited to see if mine would survive.
5. 38hrs later, i finally relented and had to try, wanted to wait 48hrs but i had to know.
6. powered phone on. started as normal, spazzed out with incoming notifications. then i noticed the touch screen did not work.
i tried stylus and that part worked fine.
7. Went to youtube and found the longest running 4k/2k video i could. turned brightness all the way up, set youtube video to 1440p and went and had dinner with the family. Came back an hour later and the touch screen worked. I guess it had some moisture still in it. I am still waiting for corrosion to eventually kill the phone but so far after 2 months it still works like a champ. Since it was a dunk job, and the phone was pretty much off warranty i decided to root it as well. after a very scary 3 hrs of perpetual reboots i got the phone working and got rid of all the bloat.
as far as case, i use the flapper window case from Samsung. so no water proof, drop proof case.
