Help Note 4 screen quit. Access with USB?

My Samsung Note 4 screen quit working. Tried the screen reset procedure and did not work. Cannot logon to the the phone without the screen working. When I plug the phone into my PC with a USB cable, it recognizes the phone, but nothing is in the window. I assume because I cannot logon to the phone.

Is there anyway to access the phone using the USB without logging onto the phone?

I ordered a replacement Note 4, and want to get everything transferred. (I store everything I can on the SD card, so I assume the replacement will recognize the info on the card).

I want to be sure my contacts transfer. Any advice on this?

Safest way to transfer contacts is if you sync them with Google. Then it's automatic. Otherwise the "import/export" function in the contacts app is your friend, if you can get control of the phone.

There are other things you can do, but they all rely on being able to operate the phone to some degree. So...

Do you know whether it's just the display that's not working, or display + touchscreen? If it's just display you can mirror it to a TV via HDMI using a MHL adapter (I think Samsung use an 11 pin adapter - there are two types, so check compatibility before buying one) and control with the touchscreen. The fun bit is if neither is working! If you have already paired it with a bluetooth keyboard or mouse you can control the phone with that while viewing the display over MHL. If not then you can view over MHL, or control using a USB OTG adapter and a USB mouse or keyboard, but not both at the same time. I have actually done this: by swapping between OTG and MHL I managed to unlock a phone and pair it, after which I could view via MHL and control over bluetooth, and then my problems were over. But getting to that point was pretty painful (having to do most of the operations step by step and blind).

Samsung has a program called 'Smart Switch'

put it on the phone, and open the PC and install the driver for it.

IIRC though, it can work via WiFi between two phones w/o involving a PC.

Samsung has another program call Smart Sync that uses the PC to save stuff and send it to another phone,
Kies 3.0 can move contacts.

Pushbullet will let you access your phone from a PC or other phone/device like a tablet, etc...
I am now using this one almost exclusively to capture Text Messages and doing a "copy from phone" and "pasting to a PC app"

SideSync would have worked with your phone to display the screen on a PC and control it from there. But I am told you need to have used it before for it to work.
