Help Note 4 Video Recording

Old Member

Android Expert
I used the video recorder for the first time last night. I was really disappointed. It looks great on my phone, but when I uploaded it to Facebook, it's very grainy. This may be a Facebook issue, but it's never happened before with my Droid Maxx.

Also, when I dug into the settings in the camera, I can't seem to find the setting for 1080p HD record. I did see there were settings for video by MMS, etc.

Any help here would be appreciated.

Hmmm.

On my Verizon Note 4, the tile immediately to the left of the one that let's you "limit for mms" will let you change resolution (up to 4K 30fps)

You shouldn't *generally* be recording in UHD, you should be recording in 1080p. UHD uses a ton of storage and a ton of power on your device while recording. It's good for some things, but it's not a general use video mode. 1080p is 30 2MP images per second, UHD is 30 8MP images per second. Facebook will still destroy the quality of the video, probably even more due to its size and the way their systems prioritize low file sizes over high quality.

Facebook re-encodes and compresses all media uploaded there in a lossy manner. Photos and videos always look much worse. You can view them in HD, but I don't think the Android app supports that currently. I know the iOS app does. Still, it won't be equivalent to what comes out of the phone in quality...
