IF this is true, and Samsung has bailed on me, then I'm seriously going to look at "bailing" on them! I supported them BEFORE the SGN7 debacle, DURING the SGN7 debacle, and even AFTER the SGN7. Now this? Time will tell, but I'm going to look at opening up my options more because this is not right! They don't listen. Who cares about those who don't like Samsung? They are going to continue making jokes and NOT be buying their products anyway. It is US...who supported them, and they really should be listening to!

$5B+ is a lot of money. I'd expect that a conglomerate such as Samsung will see the potential "comeback" of the Note series will be a fast way to recover. They just have to do their part and have a better Quality Control process to make it work!

Waiting...

They are saying bout releasing one flagship a year but not confirmed yet by samsung. So if this happens there probably will be an S8 plus or something that includes the spen

With how popular the Note/S Pen has been I'd be surprised if they completely scrap it.

The Note name might change, or they might sell the S Pen with the Galaxy S8. We will have to wait and see.

As a wise man (and AF's most prolific poster) once said, friends don't let friends read BGR ;)

It's a rumour. I've seen different blogs post every different rumour imaginable over the last week or so. Since they mostly contradict each other either most of them are wrong or all of them are. I'll need more than a post what is not the most reliable of blogs before I panic.

Now I will say that I won't be surprised if the "Note" name disappears. I could even imagine them dropping to one flagship launch per year. But even if both of those happened it wouldn't necessarily mean the end of the "large screen plus pen" handset (after all, the Spring 2016 flagship launch was 2 different phones with shared branding), and we don't actually know whether either possibility is true yet. So I'm taking the Douglas Adams approach to the future of the "Note" for the time being.

Blogs and forums are a happy hunting ground for trolls and folks who just like to stir things up.

I take the attitude of "what did the manufacturer say?"

personally, I think the Note name will survive and with the S-Pen still attached.

but, I have never, ever, used the S-Pen so for me, it is no loss.

Conversely I have one Note device (a tablet rather than a phone, admittedly) and the S-Pen was the sole reason I bought it: I wanted a device I could annotate documents on, and that meant a precision digitiser/active stylus rather than a regular touchscreen. Different strokes and all that.

If I were still in college classes, I do think that the S-Pen would be very valuable.

but being an old retired codger, I don't need to take notes very often now :D

My reason for getting the Note 4 was screen size, old eyes can't see small fonts anymore.

I think your response is more troubling than Samsung's decisions. First, what does "I supported them before.." mean? In what way did you support Samsung? If you are talking about buying their phone, that doesn't really qualify as supporting them.

Second, "They don't listen"? Not sure what you mean by that. I think all large corporations devote a huge budget to finding out what their consumers want and what they think of their product. They are likely evaluating thousands of data points before they make any big decisions.

Third, a statement like "They just have to do their part and have a better Quality Control process to make it work!" is a gross oversimplification of a very complex problem. Making a flagship phone like the Note7 is like stepping out into the void of space for the first time. They are trying to bring together a bunch of technologies that nobody has ever tried to do before. This is uncharted territory. It should be expected that mistakes will sometimes happen, just like in space flight - despite huge amounts of testing.

I too got badly burned by the Note 7 debacle. The Note 7 was the first phone I had no problem with whatsoever. But alas, now I have an Edge and life moves on.

So, I'm sorry if you feel like Samsung has "bailed on you". I doubt its personal.

Wow! I'm surely not here for a fight. I was even trying to be VERY CAREFUL by putting in the subject line "RUMORS". I even stated "IF THIS IS TRUE..." I fully realize that not everything we read/hear is true, but I was sharing as most do here and I thought that I did so responsibly. I then expressed my own personal opinions. I'm not sure why you demonstrated such a cantankerous approach to my post. What ever brought out your "Inner Keyboard Warrior" attitude, I assure you that I will constructively respond to your response, and after that, you and I....we're DONE! No need to respond and change the intent of the thread.

I supported Samsung by being a loyal patron of their products. I didn't laugh at the SGN7 jokes, or participate in them. I actively fought at work to try to get them to NOT jump to conclusions, as it is a very good phone (the best that I have ever seen) and I tried to get them to understand the difference between overheating/smelting vs "exploded" because the explosion part was being "blown out of proportion". I'm not sure to date that any have actually "exploded" but I wanted to give Samsung the best chance. Yes, ABSOLUTELY by buying their phone, I supported them! Not sure how you see it otherwise. I as a lot of people tend to "vote with my wallet" and by continuing to purchase Samsung products, I am supporting them. The opposite of that is "boycott", to which I reserve the right to do outright or selectively. Therefore, I have supported Samsung emotionally, morally, and financially.

I think that we have seen enough even here that larger corporations don't always listen. In fact, it has been proven that they will water down some things in order to justify a second release (improvement) down the line with options that could have and should have been included in the first place. I'm pretty sure that Samsung in some cases have heard us BEGGING for a removable battery! Did they listen? Hmmmm... I think that once they have figured out what "consumers" want, then they figure out how to make even more money off of it. The SGN7 is by far the MOST EXPENSIVE phone that I have ever owned...and I was willing to pay for it even though I felt that they missed the boat on a few things. You are right, they do evaluate "thousands of data points"...but just enough to make it appealing, and then it is all about the Benjamins.
Third, a statement like "They just have to do their part and have a better Quality Control process to make it work!" is a gross oversimplification of a very complex problem.
I assure you that it is not a child on the other side of this keyboard. Sometimes not seeing the forest because of all of the trees can create more of an issue. The K.I.S.S. principle is there for a reason. You can't even compare this to "space flight". There are a lot more moving pieces there and even the end-users have a voice...unlike in this situation. Apples and oranges.
So, I'm sorry if you feel like Samsung has "bailed on you". I doubt its personal.
I sincerely and humbly am sorry for you as well. We ALL got the short end of the stick with this awesome product that has so much potential. But in no way shape or form did I indicate that it was "personal". I said my peace.

But alas, now I have an Edge and life moves on.
Lets both do that... and move on.

Seriously.... Best wishes.

Again, no need to respond.... I just hope that they do come out with a new Note line...or what ever they want to call it.

I certainly don't trust Samsung here in China now. I had a Note7 for four weeks, was assured it was safe all along, when in fact it wasn't. returned it for full refund, and that's the end of that, no more Samsung phones for me, ever.

My last two phones have been Oppo, and looks like next one will be Oppo as well. :)

What is a S-Pen?
The S-Pen is a stylus and oh! so much more. While you can use it as a simple pen to write on your Note and it will convert your handwriting into text, you can also write a quick note while the phone is "off" and the note will be right there waiting for you for the next hour. The S-Pen can magnify text, translate text, copy text. It can take screenshots and create GIF's. You can use it to scroll up and down a page while reading. You can draw with it and create beautiful artwork too. I am sure there is more but that is a short list of the S-Pen features and why people love the Note.

My Toshiba TV was made by Philips, an old store branded radio of mine was made by Sanio, Apple retina displays are made by Samsung. The non branded rechargeable batteries in my Christmas lights turned out to be Panasonic............ I could go on.

I didn't think I'd be using the iris scanner to unlock my phone, but I actually miss it now.

After 2+ weeks with my S7edge, I still look into it expecting the iris scanner. I knock myself in the head every time, telling myself to stop.:paperbagdroid: I miss it too.;)

kokiangel, you covered almost every feature of the S-pen but forgot one - losing it! I'm always worried about misplacing mine since I use mine for work through a proprietary App I have installed. Too bad they didn't incorporate an alarm sound in the S-pen that you could turn on with your phone so you could locate it. I haven't lost mine yet, knock on plastic!

There IS a setting for the stylus that allows the phone to make a noise that lets you know when you have moved away from the stylus/S Pen while holding the phone or moved away from the phone while holding the stylus/S Pen or if you have dropped the stylus and it falls farther than 40" away from the phone. 40" is just a guess. I'm not sure about the actual distance but that's rather close to what I saw while trying it out.

I never have used it or needed the warning/alarm. I have used a stylus on many screens over the years, starting with a WACOM stylus and graphics pad while using Photoshop as far back as 2003. I am OCD about tablets and phones and keeping finger prints OFF of their screens. It's somewhat of a curse for me.

I'll always use a stylus and my buying preferences are dependent upon that desire.

In my Note 4, it honks at me if I forget the S Pen and walk away.

You could set the N7 to sound when the stylus was taken out of range.
