Note II touchscreen less responsive than SGS III

I _REALLY_ like the Note II, and was committed to buy one, until I had a very odd experience at the AT&T store.

I'm hoping to get some feedback here, to put me at ease so I can buy one and not have to worry about problems.

Here's the story.

My primary smartphone in my SGS III, so I was already pre-sold on a Note II.

Upon going into the AT&T store, and since I had not seen one in person I tried the display unit first.

The _one_ and _only_ problem I encountered during a solid 90 minutes with the phone, was a distinct lack of responsiveness with the touchscreen. In fact that's the only reason I spent as long with it as I did.

Upon touching a link to invoke it to open, about 80% of the time, after touching, it would respond. The other 20% of the time, I would touch the link and nothing. A very odd feeling and one that created concern. I'm so used to the terrific response of my SGS III, when the Note II did fail to respond it was so disconcerting I thought it was me. Over and over I tried touching different links on different web pages only to experience this same off and on again response.

Oddly enough, I found that if I zoomed in on the page to make the link larger, then it would respond every time. Normally that would not be a deal breaker, other than the fact it ads and extra step nearly every time I want to open a link.

Anyone here have this experience?

I've read loads of reviews and never seen this reported. Other than this problem I love the phone and I'm ready right now to buy one if I can get past this.

Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated. Especially from those who own the Note II.

Given the sheer number of very positive reviews from sites that I consider highly credible (The Verge, CNET, BGR, Engadget, Slash Gear, etc.), not one of them mentioned the problem you stated in your post.

Remember, demo units are used by all sorts of people, so I wouldn't put too much stock into what you perceived to be an issue. Hell, even the newest iPhones don't register every touch on the screen - link or otherwise.
 
I actually thought the Note II touchscreen is too freaking sensitive. Sometime I would be holding on the sides and my thumb just accidentally brushed against the side and it will activate something. Or if I wipe the screen with my T-shirt, the finger behind the thick cotton would affect the screen. And just for experiment sake, I touch with screen with a plastic bottle and I could use it as a stylus!

With my old iPhone, I have to really press it for it to register. If I touch it with my finger nail instead of finger, it wouldn't see it. With the Note II, fingernail works as good as any other body parts!

Hahaha...was about to say a similar thing. I still do it, even after 2 weeks with the phone, where I'm going to press and hold the home button (but in the process, tap the Nova app drawer button I have set up). Same thing with wiping down the SGP screen protector with my shirt or a tissue. It still identifies touch and will drag down the notification bar...LOL.
 
I've had this happen with numerous different smartphones, including my gs3. Sometimes when i press a link nothing will happen and i have to press it again to get the link to open. Not really a big deal as it doesn't happen very often. I wouldn't really call it a problem with responsiveness in general tho
 
I'm going to guess its because the one you tried has been poked and prodded by tons of people. The screen is quite sensitive, so much so that my cat has phoned a few random folk by walking all over it.

yeah I'll second this, display models aren't always a great representative of a brand new device, which you will receive when you buy one. They even put extra BS software on demo units at times. Personally I played with the demo unit at the T-Mobile store and was blown away in every way, so I wouldn't worry to much about it. If you get one and it persists I would try a different browser.
 
I haven't noticed any lack in responsiveness, if your fingers are thick, I think the S Pen might help you out.

If that's not the case, it's either you're right or the phone you were trying out might have too many apps opened, since many customers are trying it out too. I'm sorry I can't give you a direct feedback between the N2 and the S3 as I have no experience with the S3.
 
If you opt to get one and you're worried at the starting gate, FACTORY RESET it before you start setting anything up. This will clear out any unknown bugs and glitches. FR only takes a few seconds to do. There isn't a device I own that was not reset prior to me getting my play on.
 
The primary reason it was so noticeable was based on the fact that I'm the type of user smartphones are built for. Highly mobile, working in the tech sector, traveling the globe, I use it for our companies intranet, the web for a few hours each day, as well as 30 or 40 emails etc.

So the only point is I'm very adept with a touchscreen, as well as having owned every Galaxy since the S, HTC's Moto Droids etc.

Yet that said, I thank each of you for the feedback. If I had to choose the one that's closest to correct it's probably the post suggesting I was overreacting ha... ha... ha... If it wasn't mission critical for work I'm sure I wouldn't be so demanding. The person who said not one review has reported it is right also. I know this because I've read most of them.

Finally I do know there's no such thing as a perfect phone, nor am I looking for one. But wow! This one's sure close.

I was actually wondering if anyone else has been experiencing this unresponsiveness while unlocking their phone, I have the pattern lock and it least half the time I try to put my pattern in it does not trace I have no idea what is going on but it least half the time I always have to swipe my pattern twice.

Yep, I accidentally laid my gold Cross pen down on the screen and the phone dialed my doctor :p

Okay.....Sooooo.....Did you get it??? :D

Ive had mine for 3 days and am in love, upgraded from the S2 and I have to say the screen is the most sensitive and responsive I have owned.
