Note on Wind Mobile, Canada. When will I get ICS?

I bought a used phone that used to be with Rogers I think. I have a bunch of crapware from Rogers I cant remove. Anywho, I am now with Wind mobile and am wondering how updates work for such devices. Connecting to Kies doesnt work. I get the "This device cant be updated with Kies" stuff. Do I have to manually upgrade?

Thanks!

My (Telus) Note updates OTA (over the air) so you can try that method.

Open "Settings", scroll down to "About phone" and click on "Software update" and "Update".
That's all I had to do.

I have a Rogers Note and got the update OTA. I'm using it with Fido and haven't had an issue with getting the ICS update. I don't know why you can't get the update especially if it's Rogers. Perhaps it is already updated? ICS on the Note looks like GB. Check what version is on the phone. I am assuming you just got the phone and the previous owner might have already flashed it.

I know for a fact that its gingerbread. I checked under phone info

Here is everything I see

Model number: SGH-I717R
Android version: 2.3.6
Baseband version: T989DTLKJ3
Kernal version: 2.6.35.11
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.248

Is this a rooted phone? I think baseband for i717R should be I717RUXLA2 if I remember correctly. Maybe that is the reason why you can't get the official update?

Edit: just did a search. According to the baseband version, that firmware belongs to the Telus Samsung Galaxy SII (SGH-T989D)?
