Help Note4 Stock Txt Msg App Lagging

Ever since a week or so ago, my Note4 (ATT) has been lagging horribly when using the stock text message app. After typing and sending out a message, it freezes and won't let me type or do anything until the message has sent (10-15sec lag).

Has anyone else encountered this issue? How do I fix this? The phone was just fine until about a week or so ago. I can't use any other SMS app since the phone is linked to a smart watch (which only links to stock text msg app).

I'd use a different SMS app long enough to confirm that it's the app and not something else. Also, is this a constant issue, or one that comes and goes?

i got an update a 5 to 7 weeks ago and then my stock messaging app was horrible and it was backing up messeges on the cloud i think. It was slowing down the whole phone, not just when texting. So I force stopped it and now I use Google Messenger and love it.
