Root Notice: QuickMemo OTA Update Coming to Elite

I just got a text literally 5 minutes ago from posting this from Virgin that states, "VMFreeMsg, Between 7/26-8/1, you'll be notified of an update that will include a feature QuickMemo(TM). Go to QuickMemo on the LG Optimus Elite August 2012 - YouTube for info".

I'm posting this 1) so everyone is notified, and 2) we possibly as rooted users may want to see what else this update includes as it may be another 'security update' as well (Optimus V users know what i'm talking about) and we could lose root and have to find another method all over again...

It's sure to be a whole firmware. When we were trying to find root a user saw a zv5 update on lg's software site but couldn't get to it. Guess this is it

Yes, the update appears to integrate the feature into the OS instead of an app, but I could be wrong about that. Regardless, it's almost 100% guaranteed to be an entire firmware.

I just am really hoping this thing does not remove root access and give the forum a whole mess of people in panic from it. It took long enough to get the first root process...

I know it sound bad, but its really not. If we get our root kicked out then its not that big of a deal. We have to remember, that even though it took weeks to get the first root, almost all of that was figuring out how to flash firmware. Jcase had a root figured out the second day he was involved. The other two weeks was us figuring out how to get MSL and flash it. Now we have three ways to get unto the right mode. If they take out root it wont be for long.

I sure hope not, I just know with the V it seemed like it took a few weeks for a new root method to come out. Of course that update was specifically a 'security update', but they could always sneak something into this one. I just wonder what else this update includes, surely they are not pushing an OTA that only includes a new software feature that lets us take screenshots and edit pictures

is the update mandatory? or can you deny it?

I've never had a Virgin OTA since the darn V's OTA feature was not functional it seemed...but I would imagine it may be. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but other carriers like Verizon I believe only let you postpone the update for so long before you have to take it. Again that is just what I think I saw on a friend's Verizon phone once upon a time...actually yesterday, but I didnt pay much attention ;)

actually, if we can have root users save the OTA update before install, we may be able to get some info from it.

Think there will be a way to maybe accept it and pull the battery before it reboots and self installs? That way we could pull it from the root directory using a Root Explorer and move it perhaps to SD and just upload it from there.

Odds are a dev will get a hold of it and pull it apart (I can't even attempt it as I don't own the phone).

If it's a full update, and odds are it will be, the update could be a major boon for us as it could answer some questions about partitions and the recovery since it will include some of that information in the installer. It will also have to reach some system that allows it to flash... Which is another thing we are missing. There is no guarantee, but odds are this will have some helpful info that could finally kick off development.

There is no rom, those are just the raw system files for those who need them.

So...how do I flash it on my phone ;)

I was surprised that Virgin is giving an update though, the ONLY OTA update I have heard of is the one that brought the Intercept up to 2.2. I figured the Triumph would get a much needed update before the Elite.

In order to install the system files you would need to use adb to push it to the system. Or some other similar way

Leslie Ann I flashed your ROM and it seems nice, but how do I get rid of this pesky LG logo in the middle of my screen? Thanks in advance!

I've not owned one android device that forces you to update... Not sure how they could do that anyways. I don't believe anyone has anything to worry about. But if we have any crafty people on here some one should develope a rom that has the update check disabled.

That would take you back to current software version and then I'm sure it would make you upgrade again. One new firmware is released it will have to be modified to make new tot or we can try rooting with giantpune"s methode

what rom did you flash dark one
Read my post above his.

However, IF we can get ahold of the OTA, even if I can't make a recovery, I can probably pull it apart and make a rom. If it has a way to flash the update, we may be able to use that to flash the rom.
