Help Notification light

I never notice the light notification(the light sensor in the front) how does it work

if u put ur screen display light in A mode (automatic) then the light on ur screen will change depending on the light of room, or where ever u are. u can also test it urself. select automatic mode and then cover the lens with ur finger, in 5 sec or so, it will start dimming

Although it indeed does look like a notification light and also looks as if it could be a front facing camera as well it is definitely nothing more than a sensor, nowhere on metro pcs website or samsung does the specs mention a notification light or 2nd camera although it would be very cool to have one or both of those functions.
