Help notification on the icon

1) I used to have an iPhone and a HTC One m8. When a text message would come in, or an update would happen on Facebook, Voxer, snapchat etc.... there would be a notification directly on the the icon with a number on it. I believe it's called a push notification. How do I achieve this on my Maxx?

2) I also like the function where your phone is at a wifi network you know it logs onto it, but if it isn't it will automatically use your data without you having to change anything. Can you help me set this up too?

my advice on #1 is to install Nova launcher then Tesla unread plugin. Fiddle with its settings to your exact desires but it WILL do what you're asking. Nova is highly customizable and fast.

I think as far as the wifi bit, just leave wifi on and never sign out of your network and it will auto connect to it when in range.
