Help Notification problem...

This morning I unlocked my phone (S3) to see if I had any messages and I did but my blinking led notification light was not blinking. This happened a few times throughout the day. Does the led notification blink continuously till you finally check it or, does it only blink for a certain amount of time and then turn off?
 
Are you on jelly bean? I'm sure there's been a couple of occasions since I updated that I've had notifications but the led hasn't lit. Never had that problem on ICS so perhaps a bug
 
yes I'm on JB and stock. I just purchased this phone a week ago and I have a few days left to return it if I'm not happy.
 
it stops blinking once you hit the home button, so it might of accidently been pressed in your pocket or something

edit: im wrong mods can delete this, just tested on my last email notification and home button does not stop it from blinking until i unlock the screen
