Help Notification ringtone trouble

I am having trouble with the notification ringtone. I choose an option other than the default, but yet when I receive a text I hear the default. Does anyone know how to fix this?
 
Are you using the stock messaging app?

Try looking in your main settings menu (not the message app) and see if you have it set differently there.

Also uncheck "use incoming call volume for notifications" in your volume menu.

Last but not least, you may want to download and install Handcent SMS or another SMS app like that. They work much better than the stock app.
