Help Notification Ringtone

Ok so like many other Android phone owners my notification ringtone won't change.
Like I've changed my notification ringtone many times. I've tried messing around with the sound settings and all but nothing seems to work. btw I haven't put my phone forward to the phone company I got it from yet. I'm hoping I could try and get away with it but if all else fails then I'll go.

when you select an alternative do you hear that sound being played

e.g. if you select alarm, and then ring tone you should get a choice of available tones, select a different one to the default ( you should hear the new tone) and then select OK. should be new tune when alarm goes off.

same with contacts.
select contact, select edit contact scroll down and click ringtone, select from ringtone or music, again select ringtone or track you want and press ok and then done.

with notifications
go to settings, scroll down to notification ringtone, select, choose new ringtone which you should hear select OK

Should then be all set

If this does not work try doing a backup and factory reset then a restore
